Child Safety

Child Safety in New Orleans

It’s truly remarkable how quickly children grow and learn new things, isn’t it? But along with that comes the need to ensure their safety every step of the way.

Being vigilant about child safety isn’t just about setting strict boundaries or constantly hovering over them. In fact, it’s more about creating an environment where they can safely explore, play, and eventually develop skills that can help them make better decisions as they grow older. For example, knowing the color of your child’s swimsuit is an essential and easy to implement way to ensure swimming safety.

And let’s not forget the crucial role of open communication and trust with our kids; this helps them feel comfortable talking to us about challenges they might face.

At the end of the day, our foremost priority is to keep them secure, both physically and emotionally – and that’s a responsibility we should all take to heart.

I grew up in a very large, very affectionate, very southern family. I'm talking at least thirty grandchildren--just on one side--large. While holidays were always beautiful flurries of wrapping paper, hot chocolate, and babies everywhere, there was always one moment...
The conversation in our home was different last night. The usual, “ Did you do your homework, or What do you want on your taco?” seemed pointless, when you have parents that dropped their children off at school and...
It’s hot outside, y’all! Sunny days are ahead and along with that comes swimming. One of the things my sons look forward to each year is picking out a new swimsuit. If you walk into a department store, you...

Coming home from a family celebration or being picked up from school can turn tragic in an instant. The recent death of a 6-year-old girl, run over in a school parking lot in Slidell, LA, is a reminder of...
Growing up, my sister and I were always very strong swimmers. We are 22 months apart, so we took the same swimming lessons, went to “stay away” summer camps, and frequently swam at friends and families’ pools. In fact,...
Disclosure :: this post is sponsored by University Medical Center.  Everyone looks forward to summertime. It is the time of year that is less structured, with seasonal activities for the whole family to enjoy. But fun in the summertime can sometimes...
As temperatures rise throughout the summer months, so does the need for parents and caregivers to be extra vigilant about never leaving young children alone in a hot car. Since 1990, more than 1,000 children have died in these...
I adopted my first fur baby almost 4 years before I brought home a human baby. She had her issues, but she was an incredibly sweet and gentle dog, so though I was extremely diligent about supervising my children’s...
The World Wide Web is a great place for your children to find fun facts, stay in touch with family and friends, and keep up with school assignments, but it’s important that you are aware of the potential dangers....
“Jennifer! I lost Conner!” “Wait, What?!” “I lost him! He’s gone!” “What do you mean you LOST him?!” “He just took off and ran! I can’t find him! He’s gone!” My world stopped when I got that phone call. So many thoughts were running...
At this point, we're aware of the real-time effects of COVID on the human body. We're just starting to see what the long term effects may be, and although the medical community is hyperaware of the collateral damage being...
In one of my earliest memories of seeing my late father angry, I am biking alongside him as he runs around the LSU lakes when a car comes speeding too fast around a curve. I can remember my dad’s...
I didn’t say no or try to stop it. I didn’t avoid the situation, and so it went on for years. And I guess because of that, it didn’t seem bad to me until I was older and could...
