Enjoy the May weather with these fun Spring events! Check out our monthly guide for all of our favorite family friendly activities taking place in and around New Orleans this month!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in May 2019

May 2-5 :: Join Mickey Mouse and his friends at Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party, a brand-new adventure filled with world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics and unexpected stunts! Help them follow Captain Hook’s treasure map and look for clues in the search for Tinker Bell in immersive, fantastic worlds. Explore the colorful spirit realm of Coco in Miguel’s Disney On Ice debut, sail away with Moana as she bravely saves her island, see Belle in the sky above you as the enchanted chandelier comes to life, and sing-along with Elsa in the icy world of Frozen. Make memories with your whole family during Aladdin, Toy Story and The Little Mermaid as the search party becomes an all-out magical celebration on the ice, in the air, and all around!

May 3 :: Rouses Markets will be hosting a kids cooking class, the kids will be making chicken quesadillas and fruit skewers with a lemon honey dipping sauce! The kids will get sent home with a recipe to make the lemon honey sauce and guacamole. Each child will have the option to enjoy their delicious creations or take them home to enjoy later. Space is limited. Sign up today! Kids Cooking Class ages 5-12.

May 3 :: It’s that time of year again! Ready those black ties and buy yourself a new cocktail dress; the 2019 Hancock Whitney Zoo–To–Do returns to the Audubon Zoo Grounds Friday, May 3rd! Hancock Whitney Zoo-To–Do will feature live entertainment, local and international cuisine from over 70 New Orleans restaurants, a luxury car raffle, premium cocktails, and a silent auction! Enjoy music from this year’s headlining band, The Main Attraction Band, along with many other live musicians.

May 4 :: South Louisiana Swim Team’s Annual Swim A Thon. Come watch our team swim their hearts out to raise money for our team. We will have they Synchro team, the Water Beams perform, raffles and more.

May 4 :: Sprouts: Play, learn, and grow at Sprouts as we plant seeds, make crafts, and read stories in the Discovery Garden. This session our theme is Lousiana Land! We’ll honor our home state as we learn about native plants and Louisiana animals. 9:30-10:30am, Ages 18 months and up, $5 per person or free for Longue Vue members.

May 4 :: Join us at La Petite Tea Room for a fun filled Mother’s Day brunch! Children will participate in a Mother’s Day themed craft made just for Mom! Join us for out tea party style brunch for everyone to sit down and enjoy! Everyone is welcome! Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts and Friends are all welcome to come and celebrate Mother’s Day with us at the tea room!

May 4 :: It’s that time again – Kids Fest at All Star Lanes! Join us for a fun-filled day on the lanes with great deals for everyone. 1 hour of free bowling and shoe rentals for kids, adults will receive a discounted rate. Plus deals on arcade and food, and summer passes will be available!

May 7 :: Support LOOP NOLA by climbing at the New Orleans Boulder Lounge on Tuesday, May 7. Half of all day pass sales will go toward providing outdoor adventure programs for local public school students. Meet LOOP NOLA staff and make your own GiveNOLA Day donation from 4:00-7:00pm. Climb. Connect. Give!

May 9 :: In this Family Yoga session with Charlotte at Wild Lotus Yoga, we’ll explore the healing power of sound, vibration, and breath. Through fun breathing games, we’ll connect first with our individual breath and the subtle vibration it creates, we’ll expand our vibration by bringing our voices together and singing, and we’ll bring the whole family together with fun partner poses and games. The class will end with a final exploration of vibration with a sound bath using the gong and crystal singing bowls and a guided meditation. Optional aromatherapy with essential oils is offered to help bring us to a state of deep rest and calm.

May 9 :: Scoot over to the Discovery Garden for our Thursday morning series, Toddler Time in the Garden! As we sing songs and read stories that promote early learning, your little one will discover the magical world of plants and insects. Afterwards, explore the rest of the gardens at Longue Vue to see birds, find insects, and smell the flowers in bloom. May 9, 16, 23, and 30. From 9:30-10:00am. $5 per child, includes one adult. Free for Longue Vue members.

May 11 :: Enjoy an elegant Afternoon Mother’s Day Tea at Longue Vue House and Gardens with mom that includes delicious tea sandwiches, special treats, and kid friendly foods. Afterwards, visit the Shop at Longue Vue for 20% off your purchase and take a stroll through Longue Vue’s eight acres of spring blossoms! Tickets are $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Children under two are free. Ticket sales end when sold out or by 5:00 PM on May 3rd, 2019.

May 11 :: Be Hooper Be Happy is hosting a FREE Hoop Jam at Mandeville Trailhead (stage). What to expect: friendly atmosphere, smiles, hula hoops, dancing, fun. I bring music and hula hoops for play, you bring family and friends. It is not a class, but you may learn a few things! There will be new handmade hoops for purchase if you’d like (cost $20+, cash only).

May 11 :: Join us at Live Oak Yoga for our Prenatal Yoga Workshop designed to maintain a healthy practice and a healthy pregnancy. The workshop is for expecting mothers less than 33 weeks pregnant; first time yogis welcomed and encouraged to attend. Learn how to flow safely through each stage of pregnancy with modifications and tips for a healthy mom and baby. We will strengthen the uterus and pelvic floor muscles, improve circulation, aid digestion, and exercise the spine to increase overall comfort. Upon completion of this workshop, you will have a good understanding of how to modify your practice so you can attend any yoga class, not just prenatal classes.

May 12 :: Celebrate Mom in a special way this year on the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen’s Mother’s Day Bubbly Brunch cruise with a delicious brunch buffet and bottomless sparkling wine and mimosas!

May 12 :: Passion Lilie is participating in the Mother’s Day Celebration at Audubon Zoo! From 10:00am-6:00pm on May 12, mothers of any age can visit the zoo for free and enjoy live music from Irma Thomas and the Professionals. Passion Lilie is excited to join this event as a craft vendor, so moms can shop for beautiful clothing and accessories on their special day.

May 12 :: Audubon Zoo’s Mother’s Day event presented by Children’s Hospital New Orleans and Touro Infirmary offers moms of all ages complimentary admission into the Zoo on Mother’s Day. Grammy Award-winner Irma Thomas headlines a Mother’s Day full of music, food, fun and family! Thomas also will lead a lemonade toast for all mothers!

May 15 :: Spring Spectacular at Chronos BHW! Come stop by from 6:00-8:00pm, Special Offers on Services & Products on that day only! Learn more on our Facebook events page & click link to RSVP.

May 16 :: Join ZukaBaby for their new monthly stroller class! Whether you’re expecting or just need a new stroller, this class is for you. We’ll compare and contrast based on what you’re looking for, as well as test drive any and all of what we have to offer! This is a free class hosted by ZukaBaby. No registration required.

May 18 :: The Inaugural Fido Family 5K Road Race on Saturday, May 18, 2019, is a race, run, walk or strut with your mutt in the beautiful City Park Festival Grounds!

May 18 :: Join us at Live Oak Yoga for our Prenatal Yoga Workshop designed to maintain a healthy practice and a healthy pregnancy. The workshop is for expecting mothers less than 33 weeks pregnant; first time yogis welcomed and encouraged to attend. Learn how to flow safely through each stage of pregnancy with modifications and tips for a healthy mom and baby. We will strengthen the uterus and pelvic floor muscles, improve circulation, aid digestion, and exercise the spine to increase overall comfort. May 18 :: The St. Ann Pastoral Council is hosting Drive-In Movie Night on May 18th at 7:15pm in the St. Ann School parking lot. The feature presentation will be Incredibles 2 and children are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero. St. Ann CYO will be helping with concessions. Please make plans to attend and help us spread the word!

May 23-26 :: 46 Years Strong! Join us on Bayou St. John for the 2019 New Orleans Greek Festival! As always, there will be homemade traditional Greek food, wine, pastries, and other great desserts! Come see our live, traditional Greek dancing, and listen to the live Greek band playing near the Bayou. Finish up by touring our beautiful Cathedral, browsing the wonderful marketplaces, and visiting our Greek grocery with delectable cheeses, dips, spices, and much more — Opa!

May 24 :: Join ZukaBaby for their monthly Baby Carrier 101 class! You’ll be able to try on as many carriers as you want, as well as ask any questions or express concerns you may have. This class may also be utilized for people that already have a carrier and just need help figuring it out! Children are welcome to attend, as well as partners or other family members. This is a free class offered by ZukaBaby.

May 25 :: Join us for an Ice Cream Social at the tea room! Children will participate in a summer themed craft, visit our nail polish & tattoo stations all before sitting down to create their very own ice cream sundae! Cost is $15 per child. Call (504) 338-8490 to reserve your seats!

May 25 :: Join us at Live Oak Yoga for our Prenatal Yoga Workshop designed to maintain a healthy practice and a healthy pregnancy. The workshop is for expecting mothers less than 33 weeks pregnant; first time yogis welcomed and encouraged to attend. May 25 :: Sprouts: Play, learn, and grow at Sprouts as we plant seeds, make crafts, and read stories in the Discovery Garden. This session our theme is “All About Birds!”. We’ll discover the wonder of our feathered friends and learn about their importance in the ecosystem. 9:30-10:30am, $5 per person for nonmembers, free for Longue Vue members, ages 18 months and up.

May 31 :: Dinner and a ZOOvie series at the Audubon Zoo is a great way to spend a summer evening under the stars! Again this year, Cool Zoo/Gator Run will be open for a small additional fee. Bring your chairs and blankets, bring your own dinner or dine at the Zoo. Food trucks will be onsite as well as some regular Zoo concessions will be open…come hungry! This event is sponsored by Swedish Fish candy.

Recurring Events

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Audubon Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Tuesdays :: Join us at the East Bank Regional Library for Read & Sing Story Time! It  includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers.

Wednesdays :: “Wiggles & Giggles” Storytime with Craft at the North Kenner Library includes stories and activities for children ages 2-5 years old.

Wednesdays :: Wednesday at the Square is a FREE family friendly concert series that takes place in Lafayette Square (S Maestri Pl, New Orleans, LA 70130).

Wednesdays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Audubon Park every Wednesday.

Thursdays :: Read and Sing Story Time at the River Ridge Library includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old.

Thursdays :: Be a part of the Bilingual Birdies pilot class at Kindermusik with Madeline! Learn Spanish with your child (ages 0-5) through music, movement, and puppetry. Ages 0-3: Thursdays at 3:30pm, Ages 3-5: Thursdays at 4:30pm.

Fridays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Lawrence Square every Friday. Your first class is free!

If you haven’t yet, be sure to join our Neighborhood Community Groups as we’re always planning events in areas across New Orleans!
