NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in February 2019

It’s February and the carnival season in NOLA is ramping up! Check out our monthly guide for all of our favorite family friendly activities taking place in and around New Orleans during February.

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in February 2019

February 2 :: Louisiana SPCA is hosting a Youth Service Day! Children ages 7-12 are welcome to attend from 10:00am-3:00pm, and lunch is on us. Register Februaryonline today!

February 2 :: Spark a curiosity for nature in your kids as they play, learn, and grow in the Discovery Garden at Longue Vue. With activities like seed planting, arts & crafts, microscope observation, and story time, Sprouts is for kids of all ages to explore the wonderful world of the garden at their own pace. With seasonal themes and changing activities, there are always new things to discover at Sprouts. Kids of all ages welcome, though ideal for ages 18 months – 10 years. February 2-3 :: Join thousands of fellow LEGO fans as they converge at the Pontchartrain Convention & Civic Center for BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention. BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention brings it all – LEGO displays, art, building zones, special guests, merchants, experiences, and more!

February 3 :: For obvious reasons Boycott Bowl will be held February 3, 2019. It is a music festival that celebrates our culture and benefits New Orleans musicians, chefs, bartenders, and the entire service industry rather than the NFL. It will provide us an opportunity to do something to celebrate our team, our city, and our fans that we were wrongfully denied on January 20. All money raised will go to The NORD Foundation to coach and equip the next generation of New Orleans champions.

February 3 :: Join in a LEGO Minifigure Swap at the LEGO store in the Lakeside Shopping Center! Bring one of your own Minifigures, or visit the Build a Minifigure station to create and buy new ones! You can also meet other fans and switch up your collection. Also, come in to trade your LEGO® Movie 2™ Trading Cards with other fans! Open to kids ages 6-14 only. See a Brick Specialist for details.

February 5-6 :: Join us at the LEGO store in the Lakeside Shopping Center for a VIP Monthly Mini Model Build! This month: Build a reindeer sleigh and take it home – for free! Register here. This event has limited space and time slots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Due to safety and build experience standards, builders must be between the ages of 6-14 to participate. The mini model must be completely built in store. In order to sign up, guests must have a registered LEGO® VIP email address. If you do not have one you can create one for free at shop.LEGO.com/VIP. Quantities are limited and offer is good while supplies last only.

February 7 :: Wild Lotus hosts a monthly “Time Out” for busy moms. Come stretch your body with light yoga postures followed by a short meditation or restorative pose, and ending in a casual group-share. Moms will have a chance to support & be supported by other moms as they share their experiences with Motherhood.

February 9 :: Join us for a Cookie Decorating Party in celebration of Valentine’s Day at Simone’s Market! 10:00am-12:00pm! Bring the kiddos and love! We’ve got the cookies! $5 registration fee! Ages 2 – 10! Registration deadline is Friday Feb. 8th at 3pm.  Register In-store or Online!

February 9 :: Join Excite All Stars for Super Saturday at Joe Brown Park Tennis Center! Fun day of Arts, Athletics, Academics. Ages 6 to 15. FREE but online registration required.

February 9 :: Come to the Louisiana SPCA for the best sleepover in town! Children ages 5-10 can join us for movies, animals, pizza and popcorn! Register online today.

February 9 :: Come celebrate Cake Face Soaping’s brand new retail / workshop location in Downtown Mandeville Saturday from 9:00am-4:00pm! Steps away from the Mandeville Trailhead and Farmer’s Market, you’ll be able to shop, play games, and see our brand new space located at 619 Lafitte St., Mandeville, La 70471.

February 9 :: Super Science Saturday sessions are held at Cabrini High School for girls in grades 4-6. Join us in February for Solid Science. Learn the science of solids, liquids and gases using materials and models. Create crystals, work with polymers, and do “magic” writing. Advance registration is required. The cost to participate is $10 per session.

February 9 :: The Krewe of Chewbacchus starts at the corner of Press St and Royal St at 7:00pm in Marigny.

February 10 :: Admission is free to Pet Fest – By My Furry Valentine, featuring an Adopt-A-Thon with more than 40 shelter and rescue groups offering hundreds of adoptable pets. Attendees will also find a Pet Health Watch area, costume contest presented by Pet Krewe, raffle, Pet Marketplace, delicious local cuisine and live entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed with their four-legged companions and register to compete in the Pet Costume Contest. Animal advocate Andrew Ward will emcee the contest while Angela Hill and other celebrity judges determine the winners.

February 11 :: The Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts is celebrating Valentines Day all week long with your first lesson Free when you enroll 2/11-2/16. More info at laapa.com or call 985-231-0875.

February 12 :: Join ZukaBaby for a free, informative car seat safety class, Car Seat Safety with Buckle Up Louisiana, that covers safety tips for infant, convertible & booster car seats. The event is hosted by Buckle Up Louisiana. We will go over car seat installation tips, how to ensure the proper fit for your child, where to get installation services, and there will be a Q&A session. Free and open to parents-to-be, parents & grandparents.

February 14 :: Join Wild Lotus for it’s next family yoga event, Be Your Own Valentine. In this session you and your family will: practice partner yoga poses, play games designed to help family members connect, practice breath work to bring in peace, experience a guided meditation to the sound and vibration of crystal singing bowls, create family valentines, and finish in a deep rest in Savasana to the song, “I am the Light of my Soul.” Cost: $20 per family. February 14 :: Spend a romantic evening with your special someone aboard the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen this Valentine’s Day in New Orleans. Enjoy an upscale buffet menu, open bar, live entertainment, reserved seating for the evening, and complimentary Champagne upon boarding.

February 15 :: Join ZukaBaby for a class designed to help you select the right carrier for your family, or to receive help with one you already own during Babywearing 101! You’ll be able to try on as many carriers as you want, as well as ask any questions or express concerns you may have. This is a free class for parents and caregivers. No RSVP needed

February 16 :: The Krewe of Confetti Kids presents our annual Mardi Gras parade around Algiers Point! Festivities will begin in Confetti Park at 10:30 am, the parade will line up at 11:00am, roll at 11:30am, and will return to Confetti Park for King Cake and lemonade (and adult beverages, courtesy of Historic 504 Properties – Michael Verderosa, MPS, Realtor).

February 16 :: Valentine’s Day Parent’s Night Out at Church’s Karate Academy! $20, 5:00pm-9:00pm. Pizza, Drinks, Chips, Popcorn, Karate, Crafts, Games, and a Movie! Ages 5-14 welcome (4 year old siblings welcome as well). No experience necessary. Limit 40.

February 16 :: The Krewe of Bilge boat parade starts at the Marina Cafe at 11:00am, passes through the marina basin, goes past the Dock of Slidell and then turns north and enters what is known as the “Firehouse Canal.”

February 16 :: The Krewe of Poseidon parade will start at the intersection of Berkley Street and Spartan Drive in Slidell at 6:00pm.

February 16 :: The Krewe du Vieux Parade Route begins on the corner of Decatur Street and Marigny Street in New Orleans at 6:30pm.

February 16 :: The krewedelusion Parade Route begins on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Royal Street in New Orleans at 7:00pm.

February 17 :: The Krewe of Little Rascals parade will start at the corner of El Dorado Street and Woodlawn Avenue in Metairie at 12:00pm.

February 17 :: The Krewe of Slidellians parade will start at the intersection of Berkley Street and Spartan Drive in Slidell at 1:00pm.

February 17 :: The Krewe of Perseus parade will start at the intersection of Berkley Street and Spartan Drive in Slidell at 7:15pm.

February 19 :: Children’s Hospital and the Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital invite you to a free car seat check/installation. Our certified technicians will ensure that you are using the proper seat for your child and install/fit the seat to safety standards. Our Car Seat Fitting Station takes place every third Tuesday of the month from 9:00am-11:00am.

February 19-20 :: Entergy and NORD presents a Black History Month Celebration highlighting Black Resiliency in New Orleans. This 2 day event is an interactive tour through history focusing on the influence and impact African Americans had on the shaping the City of New Orleans from its culture, food, dance, architecture, people and government. The exhibit will feature special dance performances, spoken word, athletic demonstrations, and more.

February 20 :: Join the Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital for a School Readiness Session at the Jefferson Parish Public Library, 5:30-7:00pm. Identify school ready characteristics, discuss and learn ways to prepare children for school, and become familiar with two assessments tools used in schools. For parents of children ages 1-5. Free! February 20 :: Meet the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales at the annual Horses, Hops and Cops fundraiser. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for sale. General admission is free for all ages. Guests will enjoy touring the stables, viewing the Budweiser Clydesdales up close, and learning more about how the N.O.P.D. Mounted Division has launched a new horse breeding program. Enjoy local entertainment, shopping with local arts & crafts vendors, and fun kids activities. Food and beverages will be available for sale.

February 22 :: The Krewe of Cork will begin on Royal Street between St. Peter Street and Toulouse Street in New Orleans at 3:00pm.

February 22 :: The Krewe of Oshun parade will start at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Perrier Street in New Orleans at 6:00pm.

February 22 :: The Krewe of Cleopatra parade will start at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street at 6:30pm.

February 22 :: The Krewe of Eve parade will begin at the intersection of Asbury Drive and Highway 190 (Emerald Road) in Mandeville at 7:00pm.

February 22 :: The Krewe of Excalibur will use the Metairie Westbound route and begin at the intersection of Bonnabel Boulevard and Nero Street at 7:30pm.

February 23 :: The Krewe de Paws of Olde Towne line-up on Ciruti Street and begin the parade at the intersection Robert Street in Slidell at 10:00am.

February 23 :: The Mystic Knights of Adonis parade starts at Kabel and General de Gaulle on the Westbank at 11:45am.

February 23 :: The Krewe of Ponchatrain parade will start at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Magazine Street at 1:00pm.

February 23 :: The Knights of Nemesis parade starts on W. Judge Perez Drive at the St. Bernard Civic Center in Chalmette at 1:00pm.

February 23 :: The Knights of Sparta parade will start at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street at 5:30pm.

February 23 :: The Krewe of Caesar will begin at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and El Dorado Street in Metairie at 6:00pm.

February 23 :: The Krewe of Olympia parade will begin at the intersection of North Columbia Street and Jefferson Street in Covington at 6:00pm.

February 23 :: The Krewe of Titans parade will begin at the intersection of Spartan Drive and Highway 11 in Slidell at 6:30pm.

February 24 :: Calling all canines to join the Mystic Krewe of Barkus for our parade through the French Quarter on Sunday, February 24, 2019, to the theme “The Big Bark Theory: Barkus Goes to Comic Con.”

February 24 :: The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale parade will start at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Perrier Street in New Orleans at 11:00am.

February 24 :: The Krewe of Dionysus parade starts on Berkley Street in Slidell at 1:15pm.

February 24 :: The Krewe of Kings will use the Metairie Westbound route and begin at the intersection of Bonnabel Boulevard and Nero Street at 5:30pm.

February 24 :: Mardi Gras Family Fete is a fun and family friendly event for kids of all ages! Enjoy light refreshments and amenities between parades.

February 27 :: The Krewe of Druids parade will start at the intersection of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue in New Orleans at 6:30pm. The Krewe of Nyx will immediately follow.

February 28 :: The Knights of Babylon parade will start at the intersection of Napoleon Avenue and Magazine Street in New Orleans at 5:30pm.

February 28 :: The Krewe of Muses parade will start at the intersection of Magazine Street and Jefferson Avenue in New Orleans at 6:30pm.

Recurring Events

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Palmer Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Tuesdays :: Join us at the East Bank Regional Library for Read & Sing Story Time! It  includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers.

Wednesdays :: Afternoon Story Time with Craft at the Old Metairie Library includes stories and activities for children up to 7 years old. Large groups please call 504-838-4353 for an appointment.

Wednesdays :: “Wiggles & Giggles” Storytime with Craft at the North Kenner Library includes stories and activities for children ages 2-5 years old.

Wednesdays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us at Newman Bandstand in Audubon Park every Wednesday.

Thursdays :: Read and Sing Story Time at the River Ridge Library includes stories, songs, and finger plays for infants and toddlers up to 2 years old.

Fridays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Lawrence Square every Friday. Your first class is free!

Saturdays :: Join us on Saturdays for our kids art workshop at Mix It Up Art Studio. Our fun guided kids workshops are geared towards helping with your child’s creativity. Although the children will all be painting from the same starting point, children are welcome to customize their own piece with their favorite colors so everyone’s painting is unique. Each workshop includes a 12×12″ canvas, all supplies and materials.

      Thanks, Kristy. Nyx immediately follows Druids, so I included that information. I’ve also included Chewbaccus. Pandora isn’t until March, so it will be in the March Guide. Thanks again!
