NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in November 2018

November is here, and we’re thankful for the many opportunities to make family memories during all the fun activities happening in and around New Orleans this month!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in November 2018

November 1 :: The Ogden Museum is hosting Young Audiences Baby Artsplay! for children ages 4 months to 3 years with a caretaker. Register here.

November 3 :: The Great Inflatable Race is coming to NOLA Motorsports on November 3rd, 2018. The event is for all ages Novemberand is great for families to spend the day together! Space is limited so sign up today!

November 3-4 :: Enjoy Breakfast with the Mermaids at Audubon Aquarium of the Americas! Guests will receive exclusive access to meet a mermaid up close during breakfast and each participant will receive an autographed photo of their mermaid. After breakfast (9:45am) guests will have early entry for a free photo with a mermaid. Your breakfast ticket also includes admission to the Aquarium for the day and the Mermaid & Pirate party in the Pisces Room on the second floor of the Aquarium. Members: $75.00 per person (plus taxes and a transaction fee), Non-Members: $85.00 per person (plus taxes and a transaction fee).

November 7 :: Meet Chronos Body Health and Wellness Extravaganza style. Chronos kicks it up a notch by giving you the opportunity to learn about all of our services and products. We bring in the representatives of the actual service and provider to answer your questions directly! In addition, our physicians, aestheticians and staff are available as well. We bring you all of this plus sweeten the pot with specials, raffles and goodies. We have specials on almost all of our services and products for that day only. For every $500 spent you receive 1 entry into our raffle drawings for the night. When you spend $1,250 you receive an Extravaganza Chronos tote overflowing with give aways including complimentary day spa services, free products and more. If that is not enough, we have added a charitable component and partnered with Jennifer Hale’s non-profit Sideline Pass whose mission is to educate and empower young women through seminars and athletic events in addition to providing a scholarship for high school to a young women. For each dollar donated to Sideline Pass that night, Chronos will match it up to $2,000. All of this under one roof for one night while enjoying complimentary hors d’oeuvres and champagne.

November 8 :: Get your shop on for a good cause! Join us at Kendra Scott in Lakeside Mall between 5:00pm – 8:00pm to treat yourself OR get some holiday shopping done. Enjoy sips, sweets, giveaways and a support local nonprofit. 20% of all proceeds will benefit Cash for Kids which helps families with children who have Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) in the New Orleans area!

November 10 :: Join us for this FREE admission day at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art featuring art activities, games and performances exploring the exhibition “New Southern Photography.”

November 10 :: The YMCA Corporate Cup Second Line for Literacy 5K brings together organizations and individuals in the community to benefit the YMCA’s Educational Services Adult Literacy Program. Childcare services are available. Food & drink from Abita Brewery, Acme Oyster House and more!

November 10 :: Native American Heritage Day at the Louisiana Children’s Museum! Join us for a daylong celebration full of drumming, dancing, and learning with special guests from local Native American tribes, including the Houma and Choctaw. Sponsored by the Jazz & Heritage Foundation, this is a cultural celebration for all ages, which the whole family will enjoy!

November 10 :: The MOVE Experience (Making Our Visions Emerge) is an experience for women who are ready to put the excuses aside and achieve their goals in life, money and business. Registration required.

November 10 :: Cabrini High School’s Super Science Saturday is a day of fun and learning where students explore super science topics through engaging activities and experiments. On November 10, girls in grades 4-6 can participate in crime-solving activities such as fingerprinting, blood typing and DNA extraction at CSI Cabrini. Advance registration is required. The cost to participate is $10 per session.

November 10 :: Back by popular demand, come on out for a tour of 8 of the most original, funky, eccentric and even spooky homes of New Orleans. The Weird Homes Tour is family friendly event; kids 13 and under can tour for free!

November 10 :: Join us at A Studio in the Woods for the 8th annual FORESTival: a celebration of art and nature! Suggested $10 Donation*, KIDS FREE! Musical performances by GIVERS, The Original Pinettes Brass Band, and Les Cenelles. Resident and guest artists John Kleinschmidt, Jonathan “rat de bois farouche” Mayers, Brandon Ballengée Studio presenting Crude Life, Delta Collaborative’s TIMESHIP #39, Punica Granatum Collective performing Bittersweet Orbit, Antenna’s Draw-a-Thon, Paper Monuments and more! Food by Crêpes à la Cart – New Orleans, Pirogues, Faubourg Farms and Quintin’s Natural Ice Cream & Sorbet. No outside food or beverage.

November 15-17 :: The classic fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm are turned on their heads in this fast-paced, rollicking ride of classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel. Join us in the Cabrini gymnasium for this playful, free-form comedy with lots of audience participation and fun. Cost: $10 per person. All seats are general admission.

November 17 :: The French-American Chamber of Commerce of the Gulf Coast region is excited to present a celebration of more than 100 artisan cheeses from all over the world at the Fête des Fromages: NOLA Cheese Festival! Stroll the grounds of the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the U.S. Mint while listening to great music, sampling cheeses, tasting specialty foods and sipping on wine, cider and beer. Watch a cheese wheel cracking competition, learn about the history of cheese with Chef Alex Miles, or VIPs can catch a seminar with world-renowned cheese experts Liz Thorpe or Michele Buster. Round off your festival experience with a visit to Le Marché, a fabulous store brimming with plenty of cheese-related items to take home. We can’t wait to see you there!

November 17 :: The Ogden Museum is hosting a Saturday Studio for students in grades 6 – 12. Explore the exhibition “New Southern Photography” and learn from a professional photographer through a variety of hands on projects. Advance registration is required. $30 member / $35 non-member.

November 17 :: The Junior League of New Orleans is happy to host the 7th Annual Touch a Truck at the Pontchartrain Center. Join us between 10:00am and 4:00pm on Saturday, November 17 for an up-close look at your family’s favorite vehicles. Discount advance tickets available.

November 22 :: Paddlewheeler Creole Queen is hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner Cruise on the Mississippi River at their dock location. Children 0-12 and a caregiver are welcome to attend. Reservations required in Advance.

November 24 :: Small Business Saturday is November 24th! To celebrate we are bringing back the makers fair featuring local artists and goods – Shop Small Makers Fair at Roux Carré. There will be drink specials, delicious food, and live music from Strate Notes from 12:00-2:00pm. Vendors will be announced soon! Stay tuned! Get a jump on your holiday shopping and support local small businesses!

Recurring Events and Specials

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Palmer Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Friday – Sunday :: Friends of City Park’s Historical Musical Train Tour is running now through November 2018 with three shows (11:00am, 1:30pm, & 4:00pm) on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. Tickets sold at the door or online in advance.

Monday – Saturday :: Native Americans have used the stars and constellations as a traditional part of storytelling. Explore the night sky and enjoy star-inspired myths and legends from diverse indigenous cultures, especially our local tribes, the Choctaw, Houma, and Chitimacha during Story Time at the Louisiana Children’s Museum!
