It may not feel like fall, but festive family activities are in full swing this October in and around the city of New Orleans!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

October 4 :: Calling all 2-6 year olds! Join us for Kehoe-France Author Night! Wear your Saints jerseys as author Alex McConduit reads and autographs his first book, “The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t”, dance in a second line, decorate football cookies, take photos, and enjoy!. October 4 :: Lil’ Yats is hosting a Fall Sip & Paint. This is for parents only. Come paint holiday door October 2018hangers. $40 per adult. Bring your own, drinks, food and friends. Reservations encouraged. Email [email protected] to reserve.

October 5 :: Join us for Friday Nites on the Square at TerraBella Village! Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes, but NO ICE CHESTS please. Food and beverage will be available for purchase from various Food Trucks. Help keep our concerts free and give back to our community. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the TerraBella Institute and Therapeutic Riding Center. 90° West is a 7 piece, high-energy, modern country band based out of New Orleans Louisiana.  They covers such artists as Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, and many more.

October 6 :: The New Orleans School of Glassworks & Printmaking Studio is featuring FREE hands-on demonstrations during Art for Art’s Sake in our Glassblowing, Torchworking and Printmaking Studios! Come try your hand at glass beadmaking, Gyotaku fish printing and Italian Paper Marbling! Something for all ages to create! Our instructors will demonstrate beginning at 10am with hands-on activities from 5:00-9:00pm.

October 6 :: Kinderfest: Louisiana Children’s Museum Oktoberfest for Kids! Celebrate German influences on New Orleans as well as the start of the harvest season during LCM’s Kinderfest. Twist your own pretzel in our Little German Bakery! Learn a German folk dance based on Hansel and Gretel, sample salted soft pretzels and apple strudel, and go on a storytelling adventure through our Fairy Tale Forest with Golden Key volunteers from the University of New Orleans!

October 7 :: The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual Halloween Family Concert returns featuring spooky classical favorites and a narrated tale underscored by Stravinsky’s Firebird. Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume! Be sure to arrive 45 minutes prior to the concert to interact with our ghastly and ghoulish musicians and their instruments. Admission to LPO Family Concerts is FREE for children ages 15 and under.

October 7 :: The Crescent City Farmers Market’s (CCFM) newest annual fundraising event, Backyard BBQ, will take place on Sunday, October 7, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Central City BBQ, 1233 S. Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA 70113. Celebrating Louisiana’s fall harvest, the event will feature live music, great farm-to-table food and drink, and activities for the whole family.

October 12 :: Ivanov’s Gymnastics is hosting our Halloween Friday Night, Fun-Night! Members and Non-members are welcome. Gymnastics, Games & Music, Pizza, Fun, Tumble-Track & Gym Play time. Children should wear or bring their Halloween Costumes for our Costume Contest. Lots of age divisions, so lots of prizes will be awarded. Register in advance at the Front desk, over the phone, or via email. Space is limited. $12.00 for members, $17.00 for non-members Ages: 4.5 and older.

October 13 :: Happy Birthday Louisiana Chldren’s Museum! Help us cut the cake for LCM’s 32nd and LAST birthday party on Julia Street! Play in your favorite exhibits and enjoy “LCM themed” birthday party games! PLUS: Help us celebrate our beloved Mr. Bones. When LCM moves to City Park in Summer 2019, Mr. Bones can’t come along. Will you be the proud new owner of Mr. Bones and his bicycle? All you need to do is BID! We will have on-site Mr. Bones bidding all birthday long!

October 13 :: Lil’ Yats is hosting a Pumpkin Painting Party. Each child gets to pick, paint and embellish a pumpkin. All Ages are welcome to attend with caregivers. No reservations required. $20 per child includes pumpkin and play time.

October 13 :: Cabrini High School’s Super Science Saturday is a day of fun and learning where students explore super science topics through engaging activities and experiments. Girls in grades 4-6 will discover all there is to learn about bones at Anatomy Academy! Ever wonder what makes bones hard? Watch a video, learn a song, and draw or assemble a skeleton! Advance registration is required. The cost to participate is $10 per session.

October 15 :: October 15 is observed annually as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States and various countries throughout the world. On Monday, October 15, 2018, Trinity Church (1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans) will hold space for grieving families from across the community who have suffered pregnancy loss due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, stillbirths, birth defects, SIDS, and other causes. The service, held from 6:30-7:15pm, will include music and opportunities for prayer and reflection both individually and communally, in diverse formats. As part of the International Wave of Light, where a chain of light spans across the world for one hour in each time zone, a candle will be lit at 7:00pm. October 17 :: Join Trashy Diva for a Fall Fling from 5:00-7:00pm at our Magazine Street boutiques and let’s FALL for fuzzy scarves, warm hats, and chic styles for cooler months – OR – build your Halloween costume out of accessories you’ll wear all season during a one-on-one consultation with Trashy Diva’s trained stylists! October 17 :: Join ZukaBaby and Nurse Nikki for Infant and Child CPR to learn basic skills to revive your child or infant and relieve them from choking. This is a non-certifying class. $20/person. RSVP: [email protected] or 504.407.2700.

October 18 :: The Ogden Museum is hosting Young Audiences Baby Artsplay! Presented by The Helis Foundation from Oct. 18 – Nov. 29. from 9:30-10:00am. October 18 :: ZukaBaby is having it’s 4th birthday! To celebrate they are throwing a party with food, drinks, giveaways, a special birthday sale, and MORE! RSVP through Facebook.

October 20 :: Riverboat John Visits the Louisiana Children’s Museum! Join us for special river-related story times with singer and storyteller “Riverboat John” Ferguson. He will recount iconic river stories and songs that are important to American culture. His visit at LCM is part of the programming for RiverWorks Discovery, a traveling exhibit at LCM through December 16.

October 20-21 :: Country Smooth Fest is a two day country music festival hosted at NOLA Motorsports Park in New Orleans and presented by Country Smooth American Premium Whiskey. Come enjoy two days of live country music from artists like Hunter Hayes, Raelynn and many more! Gates will be open at 10:30am each day, and music will begin at 11:30am on Saturday and 12:00pm on Sunday.

October 26 :: When You Wish Entertainment has brought you something different this Halloween! “Chillin’ With The Villains!” is a family friendly event for ALL ages. If you love Villains, this is the place for you! Held at English Turn Country Club, there will be delicious food, musical performances, meet and greets with the villains, themed desserts, and themed cocktails, beer and wine for adults (included!). Come in your best costumes and enter the group or solo contest for a chance to win an amazing prize! Tickets on sale now.

October 26 :: Boo at the Zoo is an Audubon Zoo extravaganza that is a safe, fun-filled Halloween event for children up to age 12, featuring trick-or-treat houses with candy, Ghost Train, a haunted house, games, entertainment and more. All games and treats, except concessions, are free with admission.

October 27 :: ZukaBaby is hosting Babywearing 101. Come by to learn all the basics of using a baby carrier. No RSVP needed!

October 27 :: Canal Place will celebrate Halloween with Shivers on Saturday, October 27, 2018 with festivities for all ages! The event will include a costume contest, trick or treating at participating stores, complimentary candy totes (while supplies last), face painting and balloon sculptures. Parents can join the fun too with shopping specials at participating stores. Come join us at Canal Place from 11AM – 1PM for some Halloween fun!

October 27 :: The 10th annual Jazz Half Marathon and 5K is a true New Orleans race benefiting Children’s Hospital. Join us on our course through beautiful Uptown and Downtown New Orleans, then stick around for our family-friendly post race party, where there will be food, drinks and music from Rockin’ Dopsie!

October 27 :: Join us for the 9th Annual Pumpkins in the Park at TerraBella Village! Complementary event featuring pumpkins, pumpkin painting, face painting, jump house, hay ride, crafts for the kids, food trucks with food and beverage available to purchase and more!  Pumpkins for children will be available for a donation. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Northshore Food Bank.

October 27 :: The Louisiana Children’s Museum hosts Super Science Saturday: Science is Out of This World! Discover chemistry that is “Out of This World” during Super Science Saturday, which culminates National Chemistry Week. Sponsored by the American Chemical Society Louisiana Chapter, this day brings more than 10 college science organizations to LCM to explore everything imaginable (and unimaginable) about chemistry. Space-themed costumes are encouraged!

October 28 :: St. Martin’s Episcopal School is hosting a Financial Aid Information Session for prospective parents interested in learning more about investing in a St. Martin’s education. Recurring Events and Specials

Mondays :: Time to have some fun with the newest latin spot in downtown NOLA! Join us WEEKLY EVERY MONDAY for Mats & Margaritas at 6:30pm for an awesome Yoga class followed by happy hour in La Casita On The Patio’s courtyard! Discount Margaritas and Downward Dogs, its a great way to start your week. Formally known as “El Patio.” *Food and beverages are available for purchase through on site and are NOT included in your class purchase.

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Palmer Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Thursdays :: The City of Covington is excited to announce its Rockin’ the Rails FREE concert series at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire Street.  The concerts will take place every Thursday in October from 5:00-7:30pm. The series is sponsored by Champagne Beverage and is presented by the City of Covington Office of Cultural Arts and Events.  This October’s lineup promises to be another great success! Concert goers may wish to bring their own chairs as there is limited seating provided at the Trailhead.  There will be food, beer and wine available for purchase.

Fridays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Lawrence Square every Friday. Your first class is free!

Friday – Sunday :: Friends of City Park’s Historical Musical Train Tour is running now through November 2018 with three shows (11:00am, 1:30pm, & 4:00pm) on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. Tickets sold at the door or online in advance.

Saturdays :: Calling all infants, their caregivers, doulas and other birth workers! Join the Ohm Well for our Baby and Me: Yoga & Tea series. We will meet Saturday mornings in the yoga studio located inside the Esplanade at City Park apartments. Session Includes: Tea Talk – We will discuss weekly themes and participants will be given an opportunity to share, vent and build community together. Tea will be provided. Asana – We will engage in a gentle yoga and meditation practice designed specifically for caregivers and their little ones. Mats, blankets and other props will be provided. Feel free to bring anything else to make you and your little one comfortable. Sessions are recommended for infants 8 weeks old and older. $12 Drop -in, $50 for a 5 class package. Space is limited and open to 10 families. Pre-registration each week is recommended.

Saturdays :: FIT4Baby is a PRENATAL fitness class held at The Downtown Fitness Center in Canal Place every Saturday. It includes strength training, cardio, balance and a lot fun! Get to know other expecting moms and create YOUR healthy village. Each class ends with a good stretch and guided meditation. Enjoy this precious time and let us help you prepare for baby to come. bring water. No Gym membership is necessary and we validate parking.
