Welcome in the fall season with these September activities in and around New Orleans, sure to cure those back to school blues!

September 1 :: Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts’ is registering for Fall Music Lessons and Dance Classes in Mandeville, New Orleans, Harahan!LAAPA offers music lessons and dance classes to kids, teens, & adults in piano, voice, guitar, violin, drums, ballet, hip hop, tumbling and more. September 1 :: Spark a curiosity for nature in your kid as they make interdisciplinary connections in the Discovery Garden at Longue Vue House and Gardens. Through self-guided activities that foster experiential learning and creativity, Seedling kids engage in seed planting, art-making, insect observation, story time, and more!  Play, learn, and grow as you and your Seedling explorer investigate new ideas and make new friends. $5 per participant for non-members, FREE for members. Pre-payment and pre-registration is NOT required for this event. However, you can pre-pay or (if you’re a member) let us know you’re coming by using this online ticketing system. Members are required show Family Level membership card for free admission. This event is SHINE only and will be cancelled for inclement weather.

September 4, 11, 18 & 25 :: The Family Birthing Center at Touro Infirmary is hosting a four-class series on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm. The Childbirth Education Series is recommended at 30 weeks or 6 ½ months gestation and can answer any looming questions. The classes address the stages of labor, recognizing early labor signs, pain management, medical interventions, cesarean birth, postpartum and newborn care. This class is FREE of charge. September 5 :: Vamonos NOLA is hosting an Open House for anyone interested in finding out more about Mama Day Out, Mommy & Me, Camps and After-school Classes. Hours are from 10-noon and 2pm – 6pm. Register to be entered in an EXTRA chance to will a free day of class or camp! Winners must attend but not be present to win.

September 6 :: The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is hosting Young Audiences Baby Artsplay! Presented by The Helis Foundation. Children ages 4 months to 3 years with a caretaker are invited to attend this 30-minute workshop allowing children to explore, observe and investigate their world through song, dance and movement. September 7 :: Join us at New Orleans Boulder Lounge for FREE INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING on the first Friday of every month! Available at both locations, 1746 Tchoupitoulas and 2360 St. Claude.

September 7 :: Gleason Gras 2018, presented by Dave & Busters, is back at Champions Square to kick-off the Saints season & raise money for Steve Gleason! Starting at 5:00pm, the Square will be filled with live music, auctions, food trucks, and MORE! Also featuring our friends at Funtastic Fotos doing Flipbooks for VIP Party.

September 8 :: The Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital presents the Happiest Baby class on Saturday, September 8 from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Touro Family Birthing Center. This class will teach pregnant couples, new parents and caregivers calming techniques proven to quickly calm crying and boost infant sleep. This class is FREE, but registration is required. September 8 :: CAN YOU DIG IT? The Farm & Table FAMboree is a free-admission, family-friendly festival that brings the farm to table movement to the community with cooking demos, home and garden education, an interactive kids zone, wellness pavilion, live farm animals, family fitness programming, music, entertainment and more. Bring your family and friends to learn and “feed your soul”.

September 8 :: Get Creative with Studio KIDS at the New Orleans Museum of Art! This fall, Studio KIDS! classes explore art made by diverse cultures throughout time as inspiration for art projects. From sculpting to painting, each class features different media and techniques. Attend one class or the entire series. Classes are limited to 12 students. Register in advance to ensure your spot! September 8 – October 13 :: Hall Piano Company is offering a 6 week Piano 101 Group Class for beginners, ages 7-9. No previous experience required. Each class is 30 minutes in length.

September 10 :: Join Touro Infirmary’s Nutritionist Julie Fortenberry and Guest Speaker Erin Reho Pelias, owner of ZukaBaby, for an interactive baby food making class on Monday from 6:00-7:30pm. Visit www.touro.com to register or call (504) 897-7319.

September 12 :: Registration for Nolavore Commissary’s fall after school Cooking Class is now open! Classes for boys and girls in 3rd-6th grade run Wednesdays 4:30-6:00pm beginning September 12th thru November 7th. Cost is $280 for the session and includes daily snack and self-assembled recipe book.

September 14 :: Parent Cafe at Lakeside Mall – Topic: Language & Early Literacy is a free discussion group about the daily challenges of raising young children, facilitated by a Parent Educator will take place from 9:00-10:00am at the Lakeside Mall. Contact [email protected] for more information.

September 15 :: Touro Infirmary is hosting the Sibling Class on Saturday from 9:00-10:30am. This class teaches children what to expect when a new baby enters the family. September 15 :: Do you have a budding artist in your household? Encourage their use of color and texture by joining Longue Vue House and Garden’s Artist-in-Residence Jamar Pierre for a children’s art activity – Kids Create. Work with pencils and watercolor in this creative activity inspired by the beauty of the gardens. For kids ages 6 -10 and their parent/guardian. $5 per participant for non-members, FREE for members. September 15 :: Empire Gymnastics has Kids Night Out! Ages 5-12 from 6:00pm-10:00pm. There is games, movies, free play, pizza and so much more! $20/kid.

September 15 :: Preparing for a new child can be simultaneously joyful and stressful. This Sibling TLC series is geared toward both the expectant parents and siblings, as the family prepares for the arrival of the new baby. Register by calling (504) 349-6200.

September 17 :: Touro Infirmary will host Understanding Your Newborn on Monday from 6:00-8:00pm. This two hour class is designed for first time expecting parents to provide you with the information and skills you need to care for your newborn at home. September 18 :: Join Ochsner and the Brees Dream Foundation to support women’s health, wellness and women cancer survivors at a classic High Tea at the Saints/Pelicans training facility. Enjoy food, teas, wine and champagne to benefit the Women’s Wellness & Survivorship Center at Ochsner Baptist. The Center features a holistic, comprehensive approach to address a range of women’s health concerns and offers specialized gynecologic care for cancer survivors. September 20 :: Touro’s Prenatal Breastfeeding Class on Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm is designed to teach mothers the basics of breastfeeding. This class is FREE of charge. Visit www.touro.com or call 504-897-7319 to register.

September 20 ::  Don’t miss An Evening with Harry Connick, Jr. and Jill Connick, an educational, entertaining and inspirational evening out at the House of Blues from 6 – 8 p.m. The event is free of charge, but space is limited and restricted to individuals who register. Attendees will learn critical information about taking charge of their health while also enjoying a memorable evening out!

September 21 :: Ivanov’s Gymnastics is hosting our Friday Night, Fun-Night! Members and Non-members are welcome. Gymnastics, Games & Music, Pizza, Fun, Tumble-Track & Gym Play time. Register in advance at the Front desk, over the phone, or via email. Space is limited. $12.00 for members, $17.00 for non-members Ages: 4.5 and older.

September 22 :: NOLA Nature School is celebrating the Fall Equinox with an Open House! Join us for food, fun, and nature crafts. Children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend. No pre-registration required.

September 22 :: Children will enjoy open play, eat pizza and spark their inner curiosity with Mad Science during this 3 hour Kid’s Night Out, 5:00-8:00pm.  Mad Science will guide the children through an interactive workshop that sheds light on the properties of rainbow colors and a light-induced, optical effects demonstration device to take home completes this illuminating adventure! September 22, 29 & October 6 :: HypnoBirthing is an age old childbirth education method that uses hypnosis to eliminate the fear and tension that creates pain in the birthing experience. Moms and their birth companions will learn how their mind and body can harmoniously communicate for a calmer, more confident and more comfortable birth. There is a fee for this class. September 24, October 1, & 8 :: Explore ways of encouraging cooperation and redirecting the behavior of preschoolers during Positive Discipline (3 – 5 Years) 3 part class. Learn how and when to discipline, alternatives to punishment, and practical limit-setting techniques for common preschool problems. Registration is $50 members/$60 non-members. September 25 :: West Jefferson Medical Center and the Family Birth Place is hosting a basic CPR introduction course for family and friends on September 25 from 7:00- 9:30pm. Registration is $15 per person or $25 per couple. Register at (504) 349-6200.

September 26 – October 7 :: Discover a whole new world at Disney’s ALADDIN, the hit Broadway musical, at the Saenger Theatre.

September 29 :: Northshore Families Helping Families is proud to announce its 6th annual Touch a Truck fundraiser, a family fun event where children of all ages and abilities can enjoy a hands on experience with community vehicles such as fire trucks, bulldozers, police cars, garbage trucks, tractors, sports cars, and more! September 29 :: Open your toddler’s eyes to the wonders of the natural world though tactile & positive learning experiences in the Discovery Garden at Longue Vue House and Gardens. September 29 :: This Family Yoga class is for yogis age 5 and up. The class is a balance between active dynamic movements and moments of stillness and mindfulness. Students will be exposed to traditional yoga poses, sun salutations, and some partner poses. Embrace your inner child! Children should be accompanied by an adult.

September 29 :: West Jefferson Medical Center and the Family Birth Place are hosting Caring for Your Newborn on Saturday from 1:00-4:30pm. In this class, a registered nurse discusses newborn behavior and care. Call (504) 349-6200 to register.

September 29 :: The Positive and Prepared Childbirth Class is a weekend class designed to give expectant couples the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary for a safe and satisfying family-centered birth experience. September 30 :: This is a donation based class at Live Oak Yoga to support the fight against breast cancer. Together we will raise more money for Project:OM than we ever could alone! 3:00-4:00pm, come join the squad!

Recurring Events and Specials

Mondays :: Stroller Strides is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes strolling around the park, resistance band workouts, and lots of fun for our stroller babes. Meet us in Palmer Park every Monday. Your first class is free!

Six 30-minute workshops allow children to explore, observe and investigate their world through song, dance and movement experiences. For ages 4 months to 3 years with a caretaker. Friday – Sunday :: Friends of City Park’s Historical Musical Train Tour is running now through November 2018 with three shows (11:00am, 1:30pm, & 4:00pm) on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. Tickets sold at the door or online in advance.

Saturdays :: Calling all infants, their caregivers, doulas and other birth workers! Join the Ohm Well for our Baby and Me: Yoga & Tea series. We will meet Saturday mornings in the yoga studio located inside the Esplanade at City Park apartments. Session Includes: Tea Talk – We will discuss weekly themes and participants will be given an opportunity to share, vent and build community together. Tea will be provided. Asana – We will engage in a gentle yoga and meditation practice designed specifically for caregivers and their little ones. Mats, blankets and other props will be provided. Feel free to bring anything else to make you and your little one comfortable. Sessions are recommended for infants 8 weeks old and older. $12 Drop -in, $50 for a 5 class package. Space is limited and open to 10 families. Pre-registration each week is recommended.

Saturdays :: FIT4Baby is a PRENATAL fitness class held at The Downtown Fitness Center in Canal Place every Saturday. It includes strength training, cardio, balance and a lot fun! Get to know other expecting moms and create YOUR healthy village. Each class ends with a good stretch and guided meditation. Enjoy this precious time and let us help you prepare for baby to come. bring water. No Gym membership is necessary and we validate parking.

When You Wish Entertainment and English Turn Country Club brings you the most Villainous Family Halloween event of the season: “Chillin’ With The Villains“! On October 26, 6:30-9:00pm, the Evil Queen, Captain Hook, The Shadow Man, and the Mistress of All Evil will be invading the club and can’t wait to show you that Villains really do have the most fun! Come dressed in your most villainous attire (all costumes welcome).  Dinner, desserts, beer wine and themed cocktails for adults, meet and greets, a show and a dance party is all included!  Tickets on sale now!!!
