This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

July 3 :: Rob’s Rockin’ Dogs is hosting the first HOT DOG EATING CHALLENGE on July 3rd, 2018! We invite you and your friends and family to cheer, eat and play with us this July in Covington at the Bogue Falaya Wayside Park. The celebration begins at 6:00 pm and is in coordination with the annual City of Covington event, Sparks in the Park. A percentage of proceeds from the Challenge will go to Northshore Families Helping Families which is a non-profit family driven resource center that serves the greater Northshore area. Their mission is to provide individuals with disabilities the services, information, resources and support needed to enhance their independence, productivity and inclusion within our community. Circle your calendars for July 3rd, 2018 at 6:00 pm and come out to enjoy the Watermelon and Hot Dog Eating Challenges, great music, your favorite foods and a beautiful fireworks show for the grand finale. Admission is free.

July 3 :: Don’t miss Sparks in the Park on the Northshore! Fireworks begin at dusk at Bogue Falaya Park.

July 3 :: Rouses Markets will be hosting a kids cooking class at our Power Blvd. location. Pulled Pork Tacos with a Hawaiian BBQ sauce and tropical fruit salsa along with S’mores made with homemade marshmallows. They’ll also be sent home with a recipe to make homemade marshmallows. Each child will have the option to enjoy their delicious creations or take them home to enjoy later. Space is limited. Sign up today! Kids Cooking Class ages 5-14. Only participating children need a ticket for the event.

July 4 :: Paddlewheeler Creole Queen will be having a 4th of July Fireworks show featuring live jazz, an open bar, a delicious buffet (optional), and a cruise after the show at our dock location near the River Walk. Children of all ages are welcome to attend. Reservations in Advanced are required.

July 6 :: Don’t miss the GLOW BEADS Jewelry making workshop! Get ready to take the perfect selfie! Come learn the proper way to string a necklace, attach clasps with tools and make one of these fun glow necklaces. Parents, this is a perfect chance for you to drop the kids off and grab a quick coffee at La Boulangerie next door! 3:15-4:00pm, ticket price of $35 includes all materials needed for this project. Additional necklace kits may be purchased for $9.99 if you child would like to make more than one necklace during the workshop. Open to ages: Age 8 – 108, registration required to attend.

July 7-8 :: Southern Rep is presenting ELEPHANT & PIGGIE’S “WE ARE IN A PLAY,” an hour-long performance for family audiences based on the Mo Willems books. At Loyola University with tickets online, by phone or at the door.

July 9 :: Join Touro Nutritionist Julie Fortenberry and Guest Speaker Erin Reho Pelias, former owner of ZukaBaby, for an interactive baby food making class at Touro Infirmary. Introducing solids is a fun (a messy) milestone during your baby’s first year of life. But, it can be overwhelming for a new parent to decide what, when and how often. We’ll teach you the basics of baby food, including: when and how to introduce solids, the benefits of making homemade baby foods, how to make and store baby foods at home, adding new flavors and combinations as your baby ages, and more! Plus enjoy baby food tastings during the class and ask your nutrition questions.

July 9 :: The Ogden Museum is having a Photography Camp for students entering grades 9 – 12. Registration required at ogdenmuseum.org/camps.

July 10 :: Join New Orleans artist Kristin Malone at Old Metairie’s newest kids bookstore, Little Bookworm as we paint the summer favorite, a sno-ball! Allow your child’s inner artist come out as they paint surrounded by children’s books in a space that encourages learning and imigination. Small snacks will be provided. Ages 3 and up.

July 10 :: Home Malone hosts a Shotgun House Paint Party; part of their #PaintYourNOLA series in their Mid City storefront. 6-9P, $45/ticket.

July 10 :: Discuss basics and concerns of breastfeeding during The ABCs of Breastfeeding at West Jefferson Medical Center.

July 11 :: Come learn about our solar system and jewelry at the same time at the Solar System Bracelet Class! We’ll learn about each planet and each bead as we make this awesome bracelet! Students will leave with a great bracelet made from a mix of REAL natural stones and other beads from around the world, and new perspective about our place on our little blue dot. The ticket price of $49 includes all materials needed for this project and solar system and instructional handouts. Students may borrow our tools during the class, and will learn how to use each tool. Additional bracelet kits may be purchased for $14.99. OPEN TO AGES 8-108! Registration required. 11:00 – 12:30 pm Please plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes early to allow time to settle into our creative space and to get ready to learn! July 11 :: Focus on Children Co-Parenting Class is a nationally acclaimed program to help divorcing parents lessen the impact of separation and divorce on their children. The importance of co-parenting skills is stressed. This course meets court requirements with certificate of attendance. Facilitated by a Parenting Center staff member. $25 per person. Co-parents must register separately.

July 12 :: Home Malone hosts a Pelican Paint Party; part of their #PaintYourNOLA series in their Mid City storefront. 6-8:30P, $45/ticket.

July 13 :: Audubon Zoo’s Dinner and a ZOOvie series is a great way to spend a summer evening under the stars! Again this year, Cool Zoo/Gator Run will be open for a small additional fee. Bring your chairs and blankets, bring your own dinner or dine at the Zoo. Food trucks will be onsite as well as some regular Zoo concessions will be open…come hungry! This event is sponsored by Swedish Fish Tropical. See the schedule for movie titles.

July 13 :: The 6th annual Bastille Day Fête will take place Friday, July 13 at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) from 6:00-9:00pm, presented by the Alliance Française of New Orleans, the Consulate General of France in Louisiana, the French-American Chamber of Commerce- Gulf Coast Chapter, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. This year, activities will once again take place indoors on the first and second floors of the New Orleans Museum of Art and will include live music and dancing with local swing band the Bon Bon Vivant, a cooking demonstration by Chris Montero, Executive Chef and Culinary Curator of Café NOMA and Napoleon House, a presentation and book signing with Cheryl Wakerhauser, pastry chef and author of Modern French Pastry, guided gallery tours, numerous French-themed kids’ activities, a pop-up shop by The French Library, multiple food trucks, and more! Tickets: $5.

July 14 :: For children 3 years and older, Sibling TLC at West Jefferson Medical Center prepares them for arrival of mom’s new baby.

July 14 :: Join us at Touro Infirmary for Kohl’s Happiest Baby on the Block. Babies don’t come with instructions… Learn how to have the happiest baby on your block! Based on Dr. Harvey Karp’s breakthrough ideas, the parent educators at Children’s Hospital’s Parenting Center will teach pregnant couples, new parents and caregivers calming techniques proven to quickly calm crying and boost infant sleep. Come learn how to turn on a baby’s “calming reflex” using five simple steps: the “5 S’s” – swaddle, sway, side/stomach holding and suck. The class is appropriate for expecting parents as well as those with babies under 3 months.

July 17 :: Visit West Jefferson Medical Center for Happiest Baby On The Block (Prenatal – 4 months). Learn techniques proven to quickly calm crying and boost infant sleep based on the ideas in the popular book by Dr Harvey Karp. Participants receive “The Happiest Baby” DVD and white noise CD. FREE, pre-registration required.

July 18 :: A new ‘class’ for children ages 8 months to 4 years old – Little Acorns at New Orleans Botanical Garden. Join us for story time, activities and a healthy snack. Kids won’t want to miss this!

July 19 :: Home Malone hosts a Snoball Paint Party. Located in their Mid City storefront, enjoy an evening of painting their popular #PaintYourNOLA designs. 6-8:30p, $45/ticket.

July 19 :: American Heart Association’s “Family and Friends”® non-certification class. Learn how to perform CPR and obstructed airway management for infants and children. Advance registration and payment are required. Taught by Certified CPR Instructors. $25 per person for members, $35 per person for non-members. A separate registration is required for each person.

July 20 :: Summer Fun Playdate – two hours of free play at The Little Gym in Covington including parachute, air track, songs, balls, bubbles, coloring, and lego duplo activities with an instructor. Due to limited space, ALL guests must register by purchasing a ticket in advance.

July 21 :: The Sibling Class at Touro Infirmary teaches children what to expect when a new baby enters the family. The class is designed for children 4 years to 11 years of age. This class is free of charge. Children will learn: What happens when mom goes to the hospital, what to expect when the baby comes home, explore ways older siblings can cope with the new arrival, explore ways older siblings can help with the new baby and tour the Family Birthing Center.

July 23 :: Understanding Your Newborn at Touro Infirmary is a two hour class designed for first time expecting parents to provide you with the information and skills you need to care for your newborn at home. Grandparents and other caregivers are also welcome to attend. The class is free of charge. Topics include: Newborn Traits Newborn Behaviors Crying and Comforting Feeding and Diapering Bathing and Dressing Newborn Health and safety

July 24 :: Home Malone hosts a Streetcar Paint Party. Located in their Mid City storefront, enjoy an evening of painting their popular #PaintYourNOLA designs. 6-8:30p, $45/ticket.

July 24 :: Family and Friends CPR at West Jefferson Medical Center gives basic introduction course for family and friends. $15 per person or $25 per couple.

July 24 :: At Creating an Exercise Plan Touro Living Well Seminar, join Exercise Physiologist Robert Banta to learn the steps on designing an exercise plan that fits your needs and fitness level. Located in Touro’s Foucher Room on the 2nd Floor of the hospital. Registration is required.

July 25 :: First time grandparents, a lot has changed in newborn care over the last few decades! From tummy time to safe sleeping (back only), and swaddling to car seat safety, we are here to teach you the basics. Learn how to best support your children as new parents and feel refreshed in newborn care skills that you will quickly put to use as doting grandparents. The FREE Grandparenting 101 class will cover: Current trends in childbirth and updated standards on infant care, a tour of the Family Birthing Center at Touro to learn important information for families, important vaccination information for Grandparents and caregivers, advice for new grandparents, trends in parenting, raising children and conflicts in discipline styles, how to best support your children as new parents, what helps vs. what doesn’t help when the baby arrives and clarifying expectations to maintain relationships.

July 26 :: Family and Friends CPR teaches the basic technique of CPR and relief of choking for a child or infant. It is perfect for new parents, grandparents, sitters or anyone involved in the care of an infant. Each participant will receive a handbook. The course uses guidelines created by the American Heart Association. This class is free of charge; however, registration is required. Upon registration please indicate the total number of participants who will be attending with you as space is limited.

July 26 :: Home Malone hosts a Crab Paint Party. Located in their Mid City storefront, spend an evening painting on of their popular #PaintYourNOLA designs. 6-8:30p, $45/ticket.

July 31 :: Growing Up for Girls (9 – 12 years) – Practical information about female anatomy, what happens during puberty, body image, menstruation and hygiene is presented in an informal, fun and hands-on manner. Girls attend with their mother or care giver. $20 per child. Uptown: Tuesday, July 31 at the Children’s Hospital Conference Center located on State St.

Mondays :: Baby Boot Camp New Orleans is offering Baby Boot Camp classes every Monday at Audubon Park at 9:30am near the Newman Bandstand. Bring your little ones, a stroller, yoga mat and plenty of water! Your first class is always free!

Tuesdays :: Baby Boot Camp New Orleans is offering Baby Boot Camp classes every Tuesday at City Park at 9:30am on the Great Lawn! Bring your little ones, a stroller, yoga mat and plenty of water! Your first class is always free!

Tuesdays & Thursdays :: You won’t want to miss Movie Tavern Northshore’s Summer Kids’ Flicks Series! Fun films will be playing on select Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am. This series is a great opportunity for parents to take their kids to see their favorite movies for only $4! This ticket includes the movie and $4 off of food and beverage orders. Tickets are available at the box office at 9:30am on the day of each show! Friday – Sunday :: Friends of City Park’s Historical Musical Train Tour is running now through November 2018 with three shows (11:00am, 1:30pm, & 4:00pm) on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays. Tickets sold at the door or online in advance.

Saturdays :: Calling all infants, their caregivers, doulas and other birth workers! Join the Ohm Well for our Baby and Me: Yoga & Tea series. We will meet Saturday mornings in the yoga studio located inside the Esplanade at City Park apartments. Session Includes: Tea Talk – We will discuss weekly themes and participants will be given an opportunity to share, vent and build community together. Tea will be provided. Asana – We will engage in a gentle yoga and meditation practice designed specifically for caregivers and their little ones. Mats, blankets and other props will be provided. Feel free to bring anything else to make you and your little one comfortable. Sessions are recommended for infants 8 weeks old and older. $12 Drop -in, $50 for a 5 class package. Space is limited and open to 10 families. Pre-registration each week is recommended.
