April is here and with it comes all the Springtime events! Enjoy the sun or the indoor activities happening around our beautiful city this month.

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in April 2018

April 1-30 :: Marathon Month is a big event at any Orange Theory location and goes on for the entire month of April. Participants can choose to run a half, full or ultra marathon. Once they complete their marathon then they receive a t-shirt. Registration for members is $25.

April 2 :: Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts is offering two free lessons when you enroll in private music lessons or dance classes on April 2! Choose from piano, guitar, ukulele, voice, drums, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, tuba, trombone, and more! Locations in Covington, Mandeville, and Harahan. April 4 :: Join ZukaBaby and Nurse Nikki for Baby Bistreaux with Nurse Nikki, a non-biased, informative discussion on infant nutrition (breastfeeding, formula feeding, or a blend of both) and to ask questions, express concerns, and receive professional support. April 5 :: Our biggest and, arguably, the most fun event of the year! The EJBA Business Bingo will be held this year on April 5 from 5:00-8:00pm. Each game of Bingo is sponsored by a business and includes a prize valued at over $250! Our grand prize black out winner will enjoy a cruise for 2! The night also includes a silent auction, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and food & beverages. Just $20.00 will get you in and can be purchased from EJBA, Elmwood Self Storage and Wine Cellar, and Dawnbusters Kiwanis Club.

April 6 :: Friday Night Flights cheese and beer pairings happen every Friday at the Warehouse District location of St. James Cheese Company (641 Tchoupitoulas). From 5:00-8:00pm, a 3 cheese- 3 beer pairing is $15. New brewery featured every month.

April 6 :: Upturn Arts is hosting its 6th annual Studio 504: Disco for Dance fundraising event! The event is on April 6th from 6:00-9:00pm at the New Orleans Jazz Market. Cost: $35/General Admission ticket.

April 6 :: TerraBella Village’s Friday Nites on the Square featuring The Crooked Vines – Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes, but NO ICE CHESTS please. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Help keep our concerts free and give back to our community. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the TerraBella Institute.

April 6 :: Join us at New Orleans Boulder Lounge for FREE INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING on the first Friday of every month! Available at both locations.

April 7 :: Join Easterseals Louisiana for our 2nd Autism Annual Acceptance Day! On April 7, our Thibodaux Easterseals Office invites the community to come out for an educational day of sensory fun and games. Resources will be available to help families that have loved ones on the Autism spectrum, along with free sensory activities for children of all ages. This is an opportunity for families to receive valuable resources regarding the new “Healthy Louisiana” plans, talk to mental health counselors, and our local authority. This is also a chance for families to educate providers in our community to the needs of families.

April 7 :: Join us for Supersaurus Saturday at the Louisiana Children’s Museum and become a junior paleontologist. Learn about dinosaurs and geology with members of the New Orleans Geological Society (NOGS). Explore the NOGS fossil collection, see life-sized dinosaur skulls, and walk in dinosaur footprints. Shake the Earth and watch the movement on a seismograph. Match predators with prey in geological time, discover how plant eating dinosaurs defended themselves from the meat eaters, and more! Complete a Dino scavenger hunt and receive a real dinosaur bone fragment to keep!

April 7 :: Join ZukaBaby and Nurse Nikki for Infant & Child CPR with Nurse Nikki to learn basic skills to revive your child or infant and relieve them from choking. This is a non-certifying class. $20/person. RSVP: [email protected] or 504.407.2700.

April 8 :: Free Kids Yoga Class at Wild Lotus is part of our 8 hour Intro to Teaching Kids Yoga workshop at Wild Lotus Yoga Uptown. Class is free and open to the public. The class will be led by Charlotte Mabry and is appropriate for kids ages 5-10.

April 12 :: LM Cinema Presents Mom’s Night Out – a Free Showing of “Bad Moms” Movie is free; Petit Plates menu with cocktail and wine specials; Complimentary popcorn; Movie starts when sun sets; Outdoor Palm Garden at Le Meridien New Orleans; RSVP online.

April 12-15 :: Don’t miss the 35th annual French Quarter Festival, a favorite among New Orleans locals and visitors, happening April 12 – April 15. French Quarter Fest is a FREE, annual music festival held in the French Quarter with endless amounts of Louisiana food, fun, and music! The fest will feature more than 60 food and beverage booths scattered throughout the French Quarter and more than 23 stages featuring more than 300 Louisiana performers throughout the three-day weekend festival.

April 13 :: Cabrini High School is having their annual spring musical performing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Original Cinderella. Before the play, there will be a Princess Party where girls ages 4-11 can come dressed in their favorite princess costume and enjoy a princess scavenger hunt, free photographs, dinner, and VIP seating for Cabrini’s performance of Cinderella. The Cinderella performance is $10/person and the Princess Party with the play is $20/person. Tickets for Cinderella and the Princess Party may be purchased at the door.

April 13-15 :: Bead & Jewelry Show open to the public held at the Pontchartrain Center, Kenner, LA. featuring fashion jewelry, beads, beading supplies, findings, rings, pearls, beading classes, and more. Show dates are April 13, 14, & 15. Show hours are 10:00am-6:00pm, Friday & Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. Admission is only $5 for the weekend and parking is free.

April 14 :: Once a month, Bayou Paddlesports hosts Kid’s Paddle at Bayou St. John, a fun and informative children’s paddle session with paddling lessons from 9:30-11:00am. Many children-focused businesses will also be onsite promoting their services and other outdoor activities. We’ll have raffles & giveaways from participating businesses and Bayou Paddlesports from 9:30am-12:00pm. Come out and let us introduce the wonderful world of paddling to your child! Ages 6-12. Gear is limited so make your reservations today!

April 14 :: Growing Gardeners at The New Orleans Botanical Garden! This program introduces children to the fun of gardening while learning about (and playing with!) plants, food, and ecosystems. Children ages 6-9 welcome. We meet at the front entrance of The Botanical Garden at 10:00am for drop off. $17 per class. $14 per class if you register for 6 classes at once! *When paying in advance classes do not need to be used consecutively.

April 14 :: Join FIT4MOM for our monthly MNO! The Second Saturday of every month we host a get together just for moms! This Month we are taking a sunset kayaking cruise on Bayou St.John, where we will end with a few sips and a picnic dinner on the levee. Bayou Paddlesports will be giving us 20% off! BYOB and BYOP (picnic). Sign-up online to join.

April 14 :: Join NOLA Milk Mom, Chelsey Leruth, for Breastfeeding Basics to learn about the fundamentals of breastfeeding and receive tips to get off to a good start with nursing your new baby. Expectant parents are welcome to attend. $5 suggested donation per family. RSVP: [email protected] or 504-407-2700.

April 15 :: The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra presents A Musical Menagerie, our final family concert of the season, will feature music of the animals including a new work based on the popular local book What the Sleepy Animals Do at Audubon Zoo. Be sure to arrive 45 minutes prior to the concert to interact with LPO musicians and their instruments. Admission to LPO Family Concerts is FREE for children ages 15 and under.

April 16 :: Join NOLA Milk Mom, Chelsey Leruth, for Momma’s Milk & Cookies to share your breastfeeding journey with other mothers and their nurslings. This informal group will be a safe space for women to talk about their experiences with breastfeeding and receive support from a certified lactation counselor. $5 suggested donation. No RSVP needed.

April 18 :: Little Acorns at The New Orleans Botanical Garden! Join for story time, activities and a healthy snack. Children ages 18months -4 years old are welcome. $3 per child; adult chaperone required at no cost. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.

April 18-20 :: St. Martin’s Episcopal Performing Arts Department is proud to present its spring musical, “Grease.” The show opens April 18 and runs through April 20 in the Solomon Theater. All performances take place at 7:00pm. A pre-show dance party will start at 6:30pm. Doors open 30 minutes prior to showtime. Tickets may be purchased at the door. General admission tickets are $10. Attendees who come to the show dressed in 50s attire will receive $3 off ticket price.

April 20 :: Stop by Feet First at 4122 Magazine Street for the Passion Lillie sidewalk sale event! Shop tons of printed organic cotton dresses and separates — perfect for the New Orleans heat — all at deep discounts. Support a local, fair trade, eco-friendly New Orleans designer, and a local store, while enjoying great savings!

April 21 :: You are cordially invited to the 12th Annual Starry Night Gala, benefitting Metairie Academy for Advanced Studies, for an evening full of fabulous food and drinks, silent and live auctions, photo booth, entertainment and more! Come dressed in your best navy and gold attire, whether that’s fancy or casual. Raffle tickets for a vacation or $1000 cash are available for purchase now! April 21 :: TerraBella Village’s Friday Nites on the Square Featuring BAND CAMP + 5K Run to Remem – Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes, but NO ICE CHESTS please. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Help keep our concerts free and give back to our community. This is a unique event to the Northshore as we end our spring concerts series with a special 5K run and 1 mile fun run honoring our veterans.

April 25 :: Confidential is the all-new dance tour from the stars of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Valentin Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd. How do you follow up the smash hit Our Way national tour that was all about family? You make the family bigger! The show will inspire and delight, and by learning a little more about Maks, Val and Peta you might learn a little bit more about yourselves. You are invited to come and be part of the family for an evening, to celebrate dancing, love and life.

April 28 :: Celebrate the wonders of water through hands-on activities, and learn more about our responsibility to care for this amazing natural resource. Explore a water table; experiment with building levees and channels; see how the Mississippi River shaped New Orleans’ history, culture, and economy; and learn about the many ways to conserve and preserve our precious waterways. Water Wonders Day at the Louisiana Children’s Museum will feature local environmental organizations, water management experts, and other community partners!

April 28 :: Arts & Eats Art Walk at TerraBella Village – Join us for an evening stroll on the TerraBella Boulevard as you experience fine art from local artists, live jazz music, wine and a taste of TerraBella! The Art Walk at TerraBella Village will showcase some of the Northshore’s “must see” local artists and local galleries as you become well acquainted with the neighborhood and the fabulous ambiance it has to offer. Food & Beverage will be available for purchase along with wine tasting. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the TerraBella Institute.

April 29 :: VCB Photography is hosting their 5th Mama & Me Mini Sessions! This year these will be hosted in a beautiful French Quarter Setting! Sessions are 20 minutes long and include 5 digital images, with the option to purchase more. Join us for some fun mama and me bonding and walk away with beautiful and timeless images!

April 30 :: The NOLA Crawfish Festival will be a true feast for the senses. Attendees can loosen up and hang out every day from 3:00-10:00pm within the carefree backdrop of Central City BBQ,while enjoying the mouthwatering scents and flavors of over 6,000 pounds of hot boiled crawfish prepared on-site by Chris “Shaggy” Davis and his NOLA Crawfish King staff. Along with some of New Orleans finest Musicians!
