The Group Text That’s Changed My Life

It started off as a group text to schedule coffee between four moms for the first time. Then we shared how our day was going. Where we were frustrated. How life was giving us wins that week. The connection and connecting continued past coffee that day, and it’s changed my life.

Group Text Etiquette

None of us ever created parameters on when we text, what we share, how to encourage, how to flow effortlessly between one topic overlapping the other and to the next. It just works.

We’re sharing the multitude of life experiences in this little incapsulated space. Quick synopsis. Sometimes long diatribes. Whatever we need.

We’re there for her.

friendship, mom friends, motivation, support, encouragement, group texts,

The texts start around 8am, when we have our first brilliant idea of the day. Or realize we have left the house with two different earrings on and likely the iron still plugged in. The use of emojis is raised to epic proportions. We ebb and flow in our level of engagement with our availability. Generally we all fall off in the evening, no pressures to say goodnight or be accountable to sign off.

When someone has been out of the loop, we eventually see a “catching up” text, followed by a cliff notes version of their reaction to the 65 missed texts the last 2 hours.

How the Group Text has Changed my Life

Life is complicated. We have relationships with ourselves, our parents, our partners, our friends, our children … We grapple with our careers, our view of ourselves, our place in society. Each one of us is beautifully unique and different from each other. The gift to hear the perspective each other brings, in a completely nonjudgmental and only to support and serve the others way, is a gem.

It is almost as though it is a diary. Where we share our hopes (I am applying for this new job), our insecurities (Can I really pull this off?), our successes (the baby slept through the night!) and every element of what life brings us in-between. Sounding board. Motivation board. I’m bored, someone entertain me. I’m making different choices that better serve me, thanks to these friends and our constant chatter of the group text. I have the gift of seeing life from three different perspectives up close, every day. My own life Board of Directors.

We all entered this group text with our own dear and close friends previously. We entered it truly to schedule coffee together. None of us knew we would continue to sow seeds of new close friendships. Although I should not be surprised ….. I am talking about my fellow NOLA Moms Blog Contributors.
