Babymoon {Taking Lemons and Making Lemonade}

babymoon beach vacationBabymoon!

I could not wait to go on a babymoon with my husband. We had both taken a few days off work and rented a condo at Rosemary Beach. Rosemary Beach is one of our favorite beaches to visit. We love the seclusion as well as the proximity to the outlet mall.

We left work right at 5pm on a Friday. We, of course, got caught in traffic, but arrived at Rosemary Beach around 11:30pm. As we pulled up to the cottage that we rented, we saw that the lights were on. Someone was in our cottage. My husband pulled up the confirmation email to make sure we were at the correct location — yep, correct place.

Oops

But, we arrived a week earlier than we had booked. I don’t know how the mix-up happened, but it did. And I cried. Actually, I do know how it happened. My husband booked the incorrect dates … and then I didn’t catch the incorrect dates when he sent me the confirmation info. We tried to book a hotel room for that night at The Pearl, also located in Rosemary Beach, but being that it was the week of Thanksgiving, everything was booked or out of our price range. We searched and searched for a close hotel to just be able to sleep for the night and then figure out a plan in the morning.

Spring Breakers

The only thing we could find was the Holiday Inn in Panama City. For those of you not familiar with the Holiday Inn in Panama City, it’s a spring break hotel. It came complete with a full size fridge in the room — no lie. We arrived at the Holiday Inn at about 1am. We were able to get some rest and then woke up early the next day to figure out a plan B instead of going with our plan A, sitting on the beach listening to the waves.

Making Lemonade

We ended up finding a condo for the remainder of the week and I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t as nice as the cute little beach cottage we had booked for the following week. We did make the best of the trip, though. We started a new tradition of eating at Louie Louie on that trip. Not only did we eat there to celebrate our babymoon, but we also went there for dinner for my first Mother’s Day when my baby was 6 weeks old. And then again more recently this past May. We hit up Bad Ass Coffee, did some shopping, relaxed, got a massage, ate lots of other good food.

Admittedly, after I cried that night sitting in the car outside of the currently dwelled in cottage that we booked, we were able to laugh about it. I wasn’t even really that upset. Mistakes happen. I think I just cried because of the pregnancy hormones.

Babymoon Lessons Learned

We joke about this being our first lesson in parenthood — you can plan as much as you want, but sometimes life just throws a curveball your way. And sometimes, mistakes happen. Just make the best of what life hands you and don’t forget to laugh.

We love Rosemary Beach and really just the beach in general. We have gone back a few times post-babymoon with our son. And now I always double check that the dates booked were correct before we packed to leave the house.

Did you go on a babymoon? Where did you go?
