March is here and spring is near! Step outside and enjoy warmer temperatures with all of the many events happening in our area.

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in March 2018

March 2 :: Screen on the Green featuring Night at the Museum, a night of cinema under the stars! Screen on the Green features a family-oriented film in the square at TerraBella Village. Bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets for seating and snacks. A flashlight and insect repellent are also recommended. Complementary event – invite your friends and family. Sponsored by Terra Bella Institute.

March 3 :: FREE Book Launch Party for “The Craziest Fishing Tale on the Bayou” at Octavia Books with Author Gary G Alipio and Illustrator Sarah Gramelspacher. Come by for a fishing, writing and illustrations chat on why there’s more to fishing than fishing. Tasty treats, of course!

March 3 :: Free Pretzel Party! Free original or cinnamon sugar pretzel from 10:00am-2:00pm, celebrating Auntie Anne’s 30th Birthday!!!!

March 3 :: Come to our FREE support group for parents of kids with ADHD/ADD. We meet every first Saturday of the month in the multipurpose room of the Broadmoor Wellness Center from 9:00-10:00am.

March 3 :: Join your friends at the Fair Grounds for a Day of Horse Racing and Wiener Dog Races. Sit in the Clubhouse and enjoy a Buffet with Corned Beef and Cabbage, BBQ Shrimp Pasta, Chicken Caccitore, Potatoes Au Gratin, Vegetable du Jour. Fresh mixed Greens accompainied by assorted toppings and dressings. Dessert, Soft Drink, and Iced Tea. Cash Bar available. Join us in the winners circle. Doors open at 12:00pm, food served from 12:00-2:00pm First Race at 1:00pm $45.00 PER PERSON Price includes admission, race program, and buffet.

March 9 :: Ivanov’s Gymnastics is hosting our Friday Night, Fun-Night! Members and Non-members are welcome. Gymnastics, Games & Music, Pizza, Fun, Tumble-Track & Gym Play time. Register in advance at the Front desk, over the phone, or via email. Space is limited. $12.00 for members, $17.00 for non-members Ages: 4.5 and older.

March 9 :: Friday Nites on the Square Featuring New Suit at TerraBella Village! Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes, but NO ICE CHESTS please. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Help keep our concerts free and give back to our community. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the TerraBella Institute.

March 9 :: Johnette Downing Free Family Concert at the National Jazz Historical Park – Johnette will perform several new songs from her forthcoming album, Swamp Romp, which features musicians from the Dukes of Dixieland and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, among many others. Also included in the show will be songs from her Boogie Woogie Bugs album, to celebrate the arrival of Spring. The forecast is always for sunny weather inside the Jazz Park Visitor Center.

March 10 :: Come celebrate NOLA’s 300th birtday ahhem, Happy Beerday New Orleans! Unlimited rides, beer, and food – $30/p. 21+ only.

March 12 :: Join Touro Nutritionist Julie Fortenberry and Guest Speaker Erin Reho Pelias, former owner of ZukaBaby, for an interactive baby food making class. We’ll teach you the basics of baby food, including: when and how to introduce solids, the benefits of making homemade baby foods, how to make and store baby foods at home, adding new flavors and combinations as your baby ages, and more! Plus enjoy baby food tastings during the class and ask your nutrition questions.

March 15 :: Family and Friends CPR teaches the basic technique of CPR and relief of choking for a child or infant during Infant/Child CPR Training. It is perfect for new parents, grandparents, sitters or anyone involved in the care of an infant. Each participant will receive a handbook. The course uses guidelines created by the American Heart Association. This class is free of charge; however, registration is required.

March 16-17 :: Visit City Putt for a St. Patrick’s Party! The party is $10/person and tickets can be purchased the day-of from City Putt located between Victory and Dreyfous. Each person will get to play one course, enjoy 1 cocktail (or soft drink), taste sweet treats, get a free raffle ticket, and receive giveaways, too. Bring a date or bring the family – everyone will have a great time! For more information call 483-9385.

March 17 :: The Sibling Class teaches children what to expect when a new baby enters the family. The class is designed for children 4 years to 11 years of age. This class is free of charge.

March 17 :: Have a children’s story you’ve been wanting to write? Learn from children’s book editors, agents, authors and illustrators at this year’s SCBWI JambaLAya KidLit Conference. Guests include editor Mallory Kass (also as author Morgan Kass), agent Alexandra Penfold, author Linda Williams Jackson, author/illustrator Leslie Staubb, illustrator/author Kenny Harrison and more. At Academy of the Sacred Heart.

March 17 :: Please join us throughout downtown Covington for a family friendly St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration. Parade begins at Columbia St. Tap Room and ends at the corner of Rutland St. and New Hampshire for a post parade celebration.

March 17 :: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day New Orleans Style with the annual Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Enjoy this truly essential New Orleans St. Patrick’s Day experience and catch our throws which include flowers, beads, kisses, cabbage, and much more! As always, mass begins at Noon at St. Mary’s Assumption Church and is open to the public. The parade begins after mass, around 1:30pm.

March 23 :: Friday Nites on the Square featuring Sharon Schech at TerraBella Village! Bring your lawn chairs and dancing shoes, but NO ICE CHESTS please. March 24 :: 4th Annual Northshore Bunny Hop 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run takes place at 7:00am at the Terra Bella subdivision. Contact Marc Lombardo 985-966-0659 for more information.

March 24 :: The Louisiana Children’s Museum is hosting a daylong cultural journey at the 20th Children’s World’s Fair which will showcase the cultures and people that make New Orleans a unique cultural melting pot. Children and their families will experience crafts, activities, music, literature, food, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) experiments within exhibits that explore the African, Asian, Caribbean/Latin American, and Native American influences that have shaped New Orleans’ culture.

March 24 :: New Orleans City Park hosts its 71st Annual Big Bass Rodeo, the oldest freshwater rodeo in the country. Be sure catch some great fishing and visit the free Fishtival with exhibitors, vendors, raffles, fishing tackle for sale, and more!

March 24 :: Come meet the author of “The Craziest Fishing Tale on the Bayou,” Gary Alipio, at the City Park Big Bass Rodeo and Fishtival on March 24, in New Orleans City Park. The Fishtival is a fun and free family event from 9am to Noon. Fishing for kids 12 and under is $5; adults $10.

March 24 :: The Paddlewheeler Creole Queen is having a Hoppin’ Down The River Easter Cruise at the Riverwalk/Canal Street Dock. Families of all sizes are welcome to attend. Reservations are required.

March 24 :: Join Touro’s Family Birthing Center for a FREE Open House Brunch Enjoy brunch, sip mimosas (or mocktails), mingle with our women’s health providers, and tour our birthing center. Mingle with OB/GYNs, midwives, doulas, and lactation consultants. Tour our birthing center, learn more about preconception health, and enter to win exciting raffle prizes including a spa gift card, barre classes and more! Registration is required.

March 30 :: Are you ready to DANCE?!? Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour Presented by Pull-Ups® Training Pants! is an ALL NEW interactive live concert experience. Sing along to Disney Junior’s greatest hits with your favorite characters: Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Sofia The First, Puppy Dog Pals, Elena of Avalor, Doc McStuffins, Vampirina, The Lion Guard and more! Kids of all ages and their families are invited to get up and dance, play games and join the biggest dance party around! Children of all ages and their parents are invited!

Mondays :: NOLA Riverside, FIT4MOM is giving a Stroller Strides class at The Moon Walk! Moms bring your babies (6wks-5yrs) and your jogging stroller for a great workout. Please register.

Wednesdays :: ZukaBaby is hosting Story Time every Wednesday at 2:00pm! Open to all parents and babies aged 0-24 months. No pre-registration required!

Saturdays :: Electric Girls Saturday morning program inspires girls ages 5-14 to become leaders in technology. It is a 6-week program for girls to learn fundamental skills in electronics, design, computer programming, and fabrication. Girls will learn to solder, build circuits, and ultimately design and build their own take-home inventions, while building confidence in a community of like minded girls.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to join our Neighborhood Community Groups as we’re always planning events in areas across New Orleans!
