Happy Mardi Gras! Whether you plan to catch the parades or attend a carnival-themed family event, we have something for you!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. We’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. If you have suggestions or additions, please leave a comment!

February 2 :: Pottery Barn Kids is hosting a Mardi Gras Party Friday from 2:00-5:00pm. Jillian Marie Photography will have a backdrop setup tocapture photos. Face painting by Hue Dat. King Cake & refreshments will be provided. No preregistration required Cost: face painting $5-10 | Photos starting at $30 w/ images.

February 2-3 :: Family Gras is a two-day FREE celebration of Carnival and family just ten minutes from downtown New Orleans. With crowds surpassing 80,000 each year, it’s big family fun just outside the Big Easy! The event takes place every year on the neutral ground of Veterans Memorial Boulevard, across from Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie. Bring your kids to enjoy the traditional spectacle of Mardi Gras parades, authentic New Orleans cuisine, local art at the Art Market, a Kids Court with face painting and interactive games, and free outdoor concerts by both national artists and Louisiana’s own.

February 3 :: Spark a curiosity for nature in your kid as they make interdisciplinary connections in the Discovery Garden. Through self-guided activities that foster experiential learning and creativity, Seedlings kids engage in seed planting, art-making, insect observation, story time, and more! Play, learn, and grow as you and your Seedling explorer investigate new ideas and make new friends. For kids ages 6-10. $5 per participant for non-members, FREE for members. No pre-registration required. Members are required show Family Level membership card for free admission. This event is SHINE only and will be cancelled for inclement weather.

February 3 :: Join us at Simplee Gourmet Covington for a Children’s King Cake Class! They will learn how to braid and decorate their own cake and bring home their own! This class is for ages 8 and above. There will be two classes, 10:30am and 2:00pm. The charge will be $20.00 Please call 504.962.9162 to sign up and specify the time you are registering for.

February 3 :: Lil’ Yat’s Adventure Books is having a Book Signing at Barnes & Noble in Mandeville from 12:00-2:00pm. Meet Drexel the alligator and take pictures!

February 3 :: Make a colorful Mardi Gras mask and a Valentine’s card at Learning Express. Free craft. No reservation required.

February 4 :: Experience Robot Fun at the Louisiana Children’s Museum for a variety of robots made by students visiting NOLA for the Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence conference. Enjoy art projects, technology experiments, and learn how you can make your own robot at home.

February 17 :: Join certified Yoga Health Coach S. Brooke Bailey for a workshop at ZukaBaby – Soothe Your Baby With Touch: The untapped resource of Abhyanga. You’ll learn the ancient Ayurvedic treatment called Abhyanga. Open to caregivers and children. No pre-registration required. Free to the public.

February 18 :: The Crescent City Girls’ Choir will perform African music in honor of Celebration of Dreams at the Louisiana Children’s Museum.

February 21 :: Come on out to Audubon Park for NOLA Riverside FIT4MOM’s grand opening and enjoy a Free Stroller Strides class, Amazing Raffle Prizes and fun giveaways! Please register to come!! Bring your jogging stroller and anything needed for your little.

February 22 :: Join Touro Infirmary for a Ladies Night Out & Wine Tasting. Learn about women’s wellness, heart health, nutrition and enter to win raffle prizes. Plus, mingle with some of your favorite Touro physicians.

February 22 :: Join Dietitian Liz Cabrera for Recipe for a Heart Healthy Diet: Touro Living Well Seminar to learn how you can live heart healthy and prevent or successfully manage heart disease. The Q & A style event will take place in Touro’s Presidents Room on the 2nd Floor of the hospital. Registration is required.

February 22 :: Family and Friends CPR at Touro teaches the basic technique of CPR and relief of choking for a child or infant. It is perfect for new parents, grandparents, sitters or anyone involved in the care of an infant. Each participant will receive a handbook. The course uses guidelines created by the American Heart Association. This class is free of charge; however, registration is required.

February 23 :: Ivanov’s Gymnastics is hosting our February Friday Night, Fun-Night! Members and Non-members are welcome. Gymnastics, Games & Music, Pizza, Fun, Tumble-Track & Gym Play time. Register in advance at the Front desk, over the phone, or via email. Space is limited. $12.00 for members, $17.00 for non-members Ages: 4.5 and older.

February 23 :: Join us in your red attire at 10:30am at the West Jeff Fitness Center in Marrero for Heart Health Fair! We will offer a Jump Rope Challenge at 10:30am, FREE Line Dancing Class at 11am and Physician Talk by Edmund K. Kerut, MD. with Light Lunch at Noon. Blood Pressure & BMI Screening / Pre-registration is required.

February 23-March 1 :: The New Orleans Film Society has the perfect remedy for your after Mardi Gras blues. This year, the 21st edition of the French Film Festival will kick off earlier than usual, beginning on February 23 and running through March 1. The festival offers a great way to sit back and relax after Mardi Gras while enjoying 17 feature films, 5 shorts, a retrospective of the magnificent Agnès Varda, French-themed live music performances prior to screenings, and special lectures, all in the historic Prytania Theater.

February 24 :: Audubon Louisiana Nature Center is excited to announce our wonderful new education program for pre-school children and their adult! Come join us for 1.5 hour program once a month. Each class will involve an exploratory hike, animal encounter and book reading and/or craft. Children 3-5 and caregiver are welcome. Registration required.

February 24 :: Visit the Louisiana Children’s Museum to sample African foods, make crafts and enjoy local musical guests during African Heritage Day. Catch a special performance by Crescent City Girls’ Choir at 1p.m., experience the Emancipation Trio featuring keyboards, Afrtican drums and poetry, and spoken word followed by a children’s poetry workshop.

February 24 :: Join ZukaBaby for Infant & Child CPR with Nurse Nikki to learn basic skills to revive your child or infant and relieve them from choking. This is a non-certifying class. $20/person. RSVP: [email protected] or 504.407.2700.

February 24 :: ZukaBaby is hosting Cloth 101 Clinic. Learn what to expect when beginning your journey with cloth diapers, or bring us your questions and concerns, and we’ll help you troubleshoot! All ages welcome. RSVP: [email protected] or 504.407.2700.

February 24 :: Open your toddler’s eyes to the wonders of the natural world though tactile & positive learning experiences in the Discovery Garden during Sprouts. Unwind and grow as you and your little Sprout investigate plants, animals, crafts, stories, and songs that foster holistic early childhood development! On February 24, Sprouts will have a very special visitor, Hank the mini-pig, also known as @mybestfriendhank! Come say hi to Hank and give him a nice piggy-pat! For kids ages 18 months – 5 years and their caregivers. $5 per participant for non-members, FREE for members. No pre-registration required.
