To Kollage’s Mom :: I See You, I Hear You

Whenever I hear about these heartbreaking stories, I can’t help but tear up. I immediately pray for these people and think how I would feel or what I would want someone to say or would need do for me if I were in that situation. When I heard the tragic news of a fatal car accident involving a local mom and her 8 month old, my breath caught in my throat. The baby did not make it, and as I’m writing this, the mom is still hospitalized in critical condition.

I may not know you, but I feel the need to say this to you:

I see you.

I feel your heartache. You thought it was safe to go to work today. You thought it was going to be fine. After all, it’s only a few minutes away. I can imagine how much stress and angst you had making that decision to make the short drive to do what you needed to do to provide for your family. I can imagine the call you made to your work family to get their opinion. And again, my heart breaks even more. I hear the reasons you played out in your head as to how it was all going to be okay. I’m so sorry that the outcome that you imagined, hoped and prayed for wasn’t your reality. My heart aches for all you are going through.

I hear you.

I can hear all the thoughts and what-if’s going through your head. I wish I could hug you and cry with you. I know that no words I could say or things I could do would take this pain away, but to make you forget about it, even just for a minute, is my wish.

You are the best mom for your baby, and you did what you knew was best. That’s all we can do as moms. This was not your fault. THIS WAS NOT YOUR FAULT. The days that lay ahead and the fight you are facing are going to be hard. The memories that you have tucked away in your heart will be cherished until the end of time. Know your struggle will not be forgotten and your beautiful baby will be in the hearts of New Orleans moms forever.

We are all thinking of and praying for your family through this incredibly difficult time.
