NOLA Moms Need to Know :: New Orleans Activities in March 2017

Is it really March?? How did we get here, y’all? Winter  passed us right by, only stopping for a couple of days!! Anyway, we pulled together some fantastic events for you and your family to enjoy this month! Mardi Gras may be over, but you know how we roll in NOLA…only a couple short weeks until St. Patrick’s Day parades!! new orleans march 2017

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! March 4 :: Electric Girls is back for girls ages 9-14! Girls learn skills in electronics and programming, and design and build their own inventions. Learn more and register here.

March 4 :: Head Uptown on March 4th for the Magazine St. Marché! Browse goods by some of your favorite local vendors in the comfort of an indoor marketplace at 3512 Magazine St.

March 4 :: Visit the Terrance Osborne Gallery Opening to see available original artworks and giclees.

March 10 :: Get baby sleep tips from pediatric sleep expert, Dr. Vyas of Sleepless In NOLA who will be speaking at ZukaBaby. Bring your own lunch and enjoy complimentary beverages and sweet treats at this free event! Space is limited and reservation by phone or email is required.

March 10 :: Join Friends of City Park for the Lark in the Park! Proceeds raised from this year will benefit the restoration of Tad Gormley Stadium. Enjoy bites from 40 restaurants and plenty of live entertainment.

March 11 :: Irish Channel Parade: The Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Club will hold its Annual Mass and Parade celebration at St. Mary’s Assumption Church followed by the parade.

March 11 :: The Sun Belt Conference will be hosting a Sports Fest on the grounds of Lakefront Arena from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  The Sports Fest will include our annual Dribble Drive event at 11:00 AM, where children ages 3-12 receive a free t-shirt, free basketball and tickets to the men’s semi-final games.

March 11 :: Uptown Needle & CraftWorks‘ Second Saturday Sewing School for kids 7-12, 9am-12noon. $45 per child (sibling discounts available). Call to register 504-302-9434, 4610 Magazine St.

March 11 :: Rock ‘n’ Bowl is having an all ages show at 9pm. John Papa Gros plus Colin Lake will be rocking the stage and of course bowling will be available.

March 11 :: Easter Egg Hunt and the Easter Bunny Arrival. Following the Egg Hunt, enjoy a Second Line parade and celebrate the arrival of the Easter Bunny and the Opening of the Hippity Hop Express.

March 12 :: The St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Metairie Road rolls at 12:00pm.

March 13 :: Eight week session for Playmakers Tots Sports program begins. Registration available now. Playmakers Tots offers a variety of fun games and exercise in an enjoyable indoor environment for tots ages 22 months to 6 years.

March 17 :: The Downtown Irish Club Parade rolls at 6:00pm. 

March 18 :: Jewish Community Day School invites you to a special Shabbat Lunch and Play Date! Children ages 3 – 8 are welcome, accompanied by their parents. RSVP to Lauren Ungar at [email protected]

March 18 :: The Italian-American St. Joseph’s Parade rolls in the French Quarter at 6:00pm.

March 19 :: The Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade will roll at 12:00 noon, on the traditional Veternas Highway route in Metairie.

March 23 :: St. Martin’s is hosting an all school Open House. All prospective families are invited to visit the campus, meet faculty and staff, and learn more about St. Martin’s.

March 23 :: The Louisiana Crawfish Festival kicks off at the Sigur Cultural Center in Chalmette. Enjoy fun, music and of course all things crawfish!

March 25 :: Embark on exciting trek across the globe! The Louisiana Children’s Museum presents the Children’s World’s Fair: a unique daylong journey that explores cultural diversity in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

March 25 :: Princess, Ponies & Superheroes Family Day at the Fair Grounds. Get ready for an action packed day of live racing, Equestrian Angels petting ponies, inflatables, some of your favorite Princesses and Superheroes.

March 25 :: The Junior League of New Orleans (JLNO) invites you to their 5th Annual Touch a Truck at the Lakefront Airport.

March 26 :: ALG Style is hosting their 11th Warehouse Sale. Lots of Champagne & Loads of Deals.

March 26 :: Bloody Mary Festival: Enjoy 2 hours of unlimited tastes of 12+ of the Big Easy’s most delcious and innovative Bloody Marys, made by the finest restaurants and bars in the New Orleans area.

March 31 :: The Kenner Italian Festival takes place from March 31-April 2 and will have famous italian foods and restaurants, live local bands, genealogy experts, kids area, crafters, St. Joseph’s altar and historic photo display in historic Rivertown.

March 31 :: For three years running, Hogs for the Cause has been voted Best Local Charity Event in New Orleans. At their barbecue festival through the efforts of many teams, they are able to raise money for families of children with pediatric brain cancer.

Kids’ Nights Out

March 3 :: The East Jefferson YMCA is having a Kids Night Out. Kids age 1-13 are welcome to attend for crafts, dinner, and more. Pre-registration is required.

March 17 :: The Belle Chasse YMCA is having a Kids Night Out event! Children ages 6 weeks to 12 years are welcome to attend for awesome themed crafts and activities at the Y. Pizza for dinner is $1/slice. Pre-register at least a day in advance to avoid a $5 late fee.

March 18 :: Empire Gymnastics is having a Kids Night Out (KNO) from 6pm-10pm. Kids Night Out is a 4 hour camp with free play, games and activities. The cost is $15 and that includes pizza and a movie at the end of the night!

Photography Sessions

While this isn’t something we would normally include in our guide, Spring sessions are the perfect time to get those family photos. If you don’t see something that works for you below, you can always check our photography guide for more information!

March 4 :: Tiffany McEntee Photography is having Po-Boy mini session at Parkway Bakery! Print release of 8 edited digital images, Poboy and drink included all for $125!

March 12 :: Sweet Honeybee is hosting Grand Generations. This specialty session will be a great may to document those growing family generation by generation. It is intended for grandparents with their children, grand children and great grandchildren.

March 19 :: Theresa Elizabeth Photography is excited to announce they are hosting a whimsical garden mini session event in New Orleans for spring! Pre-Registration is required, click here for more information.

March 26 :: VCB Photography is hosting their annual Easter/Spring themed mini sessions at their Magazine Street Studio! Cost is $175 and includes a 20 minute session, an online gallery, and 8 digital downloads with a print release.

As always, we encourage you to join your neighborhood community group to connect with other New Orleans moms and attend playdates and other get togethers!
