It’s here! Your guide to enjoying February in New Orleans!

This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! New Orleans Moms Need to Know :: Your Guide to the Month of February 2016

February 1-9 :: It’s Carnival time, y’all! Plan your New Orleans area parades with this schedule. We also hunted down Northshore and Houma area parades for you! And if you need some Mardi Gras Mom guidance, click here!

Mondays in February :: Audubon Nature Institute is offering educational programs for home schoolers on Mondays in February and March. Each week features a different theme with hands-on activities aimed at 8 to 12-year-old students. 90-minute sessions will begin at 11:00am and 1:30pm. The cost is $10 per student per class. Most classes will feature a live animal encounter. All participants must be registered before the day of class. To register, call (504) 378-2639 or click here.

Fridays in February :: Join Zuka Baby in Metairie every Friday this month for FREE Story Time from 10:30am to 11:00am. All ages welcome!

All month long :: Merry Pop-Ins Minute Sitters is giving away one free hour of babysitting when you book your first sitter with them in February. They are also waiving the registration fee of $35! All of their sitters are personally interviewed, reference checked with 2+years babysitting experience, First Aid/CPR certified, college educated or working towards college degree, professional, or artist. February 5-8 :: French Market Annual Mask Market in Dutch Alley, 10:00am to 6:00pm each day (located in the French Market District between Dumaine Street and St. Phillip Street). Maskmakers from New Orleans and around the country show and sell their artisan masks. Live music, shops and restaurants, farmers and flea market open daily, including Mardi Gras Day.

February 5, 8, 10, 12 :: Mardi Gras CAMP at Vamonos NOLA is here! Maybe you still have to work, or you are looking for something to keep the kids engaged and having fun between parades. Whatever the reason, Vamonos NOLA is your holiday camp destination! What better way to spend these beautiful crisp days than at camp having fun AND learning Spanish? Join us as we run around Audubon Park, cook, innovate and create Carnival crafts all while learning Spanish! Campers aged 3-10 years old welcome. Times: 8:00am- 3:00pm (Before care 7:30am; After Care until 5:30pm). Daily Rates available. Camp is held at Vamonos NOLA {6200 St. Charles Ave}. Register here.

February 7 :: First Look is hosting a giveaway! In honor of Valentine’s Day, they are giving away a free 3D/HD package (valued at $135). To enter to win, please visit their Facebook page for all the details. The giveaway begins Sunday 2/7 and ends Sunday 2/14. Good Luck!

February 8 :: Join the Louisiana Children’s Museum Lundi Gras Celebration – kid style! Decorate your own king cake. Take pictures in their Mardi Gras inspired photo booth, and stamp your own handkerchief to take part in a second line parade! The celebration will be held from 11:00am-3:00pm.

February 10-12 :: Reserve a spot for your child today at the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s Architecture camp! Learn about the unique architecture that makes our city special. Practice your building techniques with different materials, learn about layout and design, design your own floor plan, explore eco-friendly building choice and take part in the building of “Happy City.” Lots of fun things to do each day – come for one or all!

February 11 :: This year the Chick-fil-A Covington locations are partnering for a Daddy Daughter Date Night! This event will be held at the Bogue Falaya Hall located at 317 North Jefferson Avenue in Covington. Purchase tickets here.

February 12 :: Peppa Pig, live on stage! Peppa Pig’s Big Splash is an action-packed live show featuring your favorite characters as life size puppets! Come join Peppa, George, Mummy Pig, Daddy Pic and more in an all-singing, all-dancing adventure full of songs, games and muddy puddles! Learn more and purchase tickets here.

February 13 :: Puppy Love Fest! From Noon to 3:00pm, the Louisiana SPCA will host a dog (and cat) adoption event at the Feet First located at 4122 Magazine Street. Come give a home to a furry friend in need, and grab a pair of shoes for your own “dogs” in the process!

February 13 :: Palm Tree Playground will have SIX party room themes available that come in the Standard Fun or Deluxe model! They include: Star Wars, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Rainbow, Frozen and Super Hero. Celebrate with us – we specialize in fun, easy and picture-perfect parties!

February 13 :: St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church is hosting a screening of Lady and the Tramp along with a spaghetti and meatball dinner, plus crafts and games for the whole family! While the event is free, they ask that you bring an item that can be donated to the local SPCA. Visit their website for more information and to RSVP.

February 13, 20 :: Studio KIDS! at New Orleans Museum of Art. In each class, Studio KIDS! explores art made by diverse cultures as inspiration for art projects. From beading to painting, each class features different media and techniques. Register for one class or the entire series. February 17 :: Touro Infirmary is hosting a Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby seminar. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the most important things you can do for both yourself and baby during pregnancy and after delivery. Join Touro dietitian Julie Fortenberry and special guest Genevieve Douglass, owner of Kindred Studios, for an informative class on nutrition and wellness for expectant and new mothers. The class will cover basics of healthy meal planning, eating for two, healthy weight gain, important nutrients, foods to avoid, fitness during pregnancy, breastfeeding nutrition, healthy weight loss post baby, body image, meal planning for a busy lifestyle, finding time for fitness after baby and more. February 19 :: Birth Boot Camp with Nola Nesting. Nola Nesting helps you prepare for your best birth with modern, comprehensive childbirth education. Class meets weekly for 10 weeks and covers everything from prenatal nutrition to caring for your new baby and a full breastfeeding course. February 20 :: Join the Louisiana Children’s Musem from 11:00am – 3:00pm for their African-American Heritage Festival! Enjoy interactive musical performances, African Drumming, an African market, paper weaving in the style of Kente Clothe, and more!  Immerse yourself in African culture at the Museum’s annual exploration of the traditions and customs of Africa!

February 20, 26, 29 :: Experience the musical adventures of Disney Junior’s newest hit series “The Lion Guard.” You and your little one will explore the African savannah in a rip-roaring, fast-moving adventure, all set to the thunderous beats from Kindermusik and “The Lion Guard.” Along the way you’ll learn to build relationships, develop language and literacy skills, enhance balance, flexibility, and coordination, learn steady beat, and explore pretend play. The class is FREE, but you do have to register in advance as space is very limited.

February 21 :: Bargains! Beats! Bubbles! BOOM! Join ALG Style and CUE Magazine for another fabulous Warehouse Sale featuring 30+ of your favorite local boutiques for a one day (BIG) flash sale! While the sale is free and open to the public from 10am – 3pm, they’re offering a special VIP hour from 9AM – 10AM for those of you who want to beat the masses! You can shop ’til you drop, sip champagne and get your groove on to the sounds of DJ Bella Lox!

February 23 :: Experience China Lights at City Park: like never before, the New Orleans Botanical Garden inside City Park will be transformed. More than 30 extraordinary, blazingly bright silk covered structures will fill a large portion of our Botanical Garden. Picture an incredible glowing dragon 192-feet long, a four-story, lit-from-within pagoda towering high enough to be seen from almost any vantage and dozens of dazzlingly colorful lighted displays created by a team of some 100 artisans and technical staff at Sichuan Tianyu, located in Zigong, China. Runs from February 23, 2016 through May 1, 2016.

February 23 :: Date night, anyone? Enjoy the White Wines of Burgundy Wine Class at The Grill Room at Windsor Court. Join Sommelier, Bill Burkhart, as he takes you on a tour of the incomparable white wines from the French appellation of Chablis and the historic vineyards of Côte de Beaune. Learn about and sample the subtle differences between the wines of Chablis, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault as small bites from Chef de Cuisine, Daniel Causgrove, are served.
