This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! New Orleans Moms Need to Know :: Your Guide to the Month of November 2015

Every Wednesday :: Every Wednesday at 10:00am at play and grow studios Nola Nesting hosts New Orleans Community Moms.  Come to one meeting, or come to them all – they’re free and for you!  Topics include postpartum, breastfeeding and parents of littles play group.  Visit their website for more info.  No registration necessary.

November 1 :: Commander’s Palace is celebrating Ms. Ella’s 90th birthday! Our family matriarch is turning 90 in November – join in the celebration! Special Chef’s Playground menu will feature Chef Tory’s take on Ms. Ella’s favorite dishes. A special cocktail in her honor will make its way to the menu. Take your photo with our Ms. Ella cutout and sign her oversized birthday card. Share memories of your favorite celebrations at our restaurant on our Facebook page. We’ll toast to Ms. Ella all month long at Commander’s Palace.

November 1 :: Pre-ordering begins for Bakers Dozen Elf On The Shelf “mini-donuts.” These are cheerios made to look just like our life-size donuts, in a custom Bakers Dozen mini-box. These are an elf “prop” and last year sold out routinely.

November 3 :: Join us on Tuesday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. to instill a love of art at a young age through a guided, hands-on gallery experience. Young Audiences Wolf Trap teaching artists will November_Need-to-Know-PINTRESTpresent a series of 12 workshops for caregivers and children ages 1-2. Learn how to integrate music, movement, and drama into everyday playtime to foster children’s developmental growth. Admission is $5 for NOMA member caregivers and $5+ for non-member caregivers.

November 3 :: Vamonos NOLA is super excited to be partnering with Play and Grow Studios to bring Mommy & Me and Toddler Classes on Tuesdays from 10:30am-11:30am (2-3 year olds) and 11:30am-12:30pm (4-24 months). Come learn fun songs, chants and simple games to play with your little one at home while you both learn Spanish! Classes held at Play and Grow Studios at 3900 General Taylor St. Register here online! November 6 and 7 :: The New Orleans Book Festival is a celebration of books for readers of all ages. The two-day festival includes a family-friendly evening performance and a full day of programming for book lovers ranging from new readers to literary scholars. Twinkle Twinkle, the Friday night musical performance, is held on the grounds of the newly renovated Latter Branch Library at 5120 St Charles Ave. The daytime festival on Saturday is held on the shores of Big Lake at City Park. It will feature readings, panel discussions, and an entire activity area for kids – all centered around books and stories.

November 7 :: SMOCKTIONS is having their semi annual TRUNK SHOW and SAMPLE SALE from 9:00am – 3:00pm at the Pontchartrain Center. The show will have THOUSANDS of items priced below wholesale costs, as well as items that were ordered exclusively for the customers coming to this event! There is no charge for entry. Strollers are discouraged due to the amount of customers shopping at the event, but it is tons of fun and full of unbelievable bargains!

November 7 :: Cloth 101 – Learn about modern cloth diapers, how to care for them, the pros and cons, hands on demonstrations and handouts to take home. The class fee is $20 and you may bring up to two family members. November 7 :: The Freret Market is from 12:00-4:00pm. Enjoy an afternoon uptown to shopping, eating and listening to live music. Market located on Freret Street between Napoleon Ave. and Jena Street. You can also visit one of our favorite local artists and sponsors here Home Malone!

November 7 :: Bakers Dozen is having a Ninja Turtles event day with prizes and fun donuts! Bring the kids dressed as their favorite Ninja Turtle!

November 7 :: The 2015 New Orleans Heart Walk takes place at LaSalle Park.

November 7 :: Get creative with Studio KIDS! Artistic time travelers, get ready! Studio KIDS! classes explore art made by diverse cultures throughout time as inspiration for art projects. From beading to painting, each class features different media. Students will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Join us on Saturday, November 7 from 10:00am – 12:00pm for “Beyond Fruit” to decipher the meaning behind Dutch still life paintings then create a mixed media still life with your own hidden message. Children ages 5-10 are welcome. Each class is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Register for one class or the entire series. Classes are limited to 12 students. November 7 and 8 :: Positive and Prepared Childbirth Class at Touro Infirmary. This is a weekend class designed to give expectant couples the confidence, knowledge and skills necessary for a safe and satisfying family-centered birth experience. The class offers birth education as well as hands-on practice of relaxation, breathing, and coping techniques for labor and birth. November 7 and 22 :: Sweet Honeybee’s Exclusive Christmas Session to be held in Audubon Park NOLA. November 14 :: Grand Opening of  ZukaBaby + Kindred CONNECT. In celebration of our new modern parenting collective, come meet your village! Free refreshments, activities and giveaways from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

November 14 :: Baby Boot Camp New Orleans is having a Two Year Anniversary Event! Join us at 9:00 am at Audubon Park near the St. Charles playground (between the fountain and playground) for a morning filled with fun! November 14 and 15 :: The 44th Annual Destrehan Plantation Fall Festival! Join over a hundred vendors offering arts and crafts, antiques Cajun/Creole food on their historic grounds. Children’s activities and live entertainment also available. All proceeds from admission fees benefit the non-profit organization River Road Historical Society and its site expansion at Destrehan Plantation.

November 14 and 15 ::The Covington Three Rivers Art Festival. Explore quaint Downtown Covington while shopping one of the top art festivals in Louisiana. With 200+ artists from over 20 states, free admission, art, food, music and children’s activities, it’s the perfect even to get a head start on holiday shopping. Saturday & Sunday: 10am – 5pm. November 15 :: Get creative and make memories together! Family workshops offer a guided, hands-on art-making experience led by teaching artists. Sharpen your drawing skills by creating projects inspired by NOMA’s collection. This skill-building workshop will emphasize developing basic drawing techniques and focus on different subject matter. Join us on Sunday, November 15 at 3:00pm for a tutorial in landscape drawing. Children ages 5+, teens and adults are all welcome! Admission is $5 per NOMA member and $5+ for non-members.

November 20-27 :: Thanksgiving Camp at Vamonos NOLA is around the corner! What better way for kids to enjoy these beautiful fall days than at camp having fun AND learning Spanish? Come picnic in Audubon Park, cook, innovate and create art … all while learning Spanish! Campers ages 3-10 years old are welcome. November 21 :: Join us at the Louisiana Children’s Museum on November 21st from 11:00am3:00pm to learn about the culture and importance of Louisiana’s American Indian tribes. Celebrate with special performances and crafts! Use natural berries to create a special paint, and learn how Native Americans use berries to paint their houses, utensils, cedar boxes and faces. Play a Native American Ring and Pin game and more. The museum is located at 420 Julia St. The cost is $8.50 and free for members.

November 28 :: Little Pnuts Toy Shoppe is having a Sip & Save Moms Date! Get your holiday shopping done in style. We’ll be serving bubbly and little edibles to make gift shopping less stressful this year. We’ll have specials all day long and little giveaways to make your season brighter.
