This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! June 1 :: Kidcam Summer Camps still has space available at most of their 14 area Summer Camp locations. Register for only the weeks your need throughout the summer. No rigid sessions, just flexibility for moms needing a few weeks here and there for their campers ages 3-13.  Learn more abouJune_Need-to-Know-PINTRESTt these great 14 locations on the Southshore, Northshore, River Parishes and West Bank online.

June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 :: Babies, aged 0-12 months, are invited to join the Krewe of Zuka every Monday from 10:30-12:00 at ZukaBaby’s New Orleans location! While the babies play play play, parents will have the opportunity to discuss their children’s growth and development, share advice and support, and address their questions and concerns. Krewe of Zuka is a semi-structured playgroup, guided by the concerns and interests of its participants with special topics and activities introduced by the facilitator. This group is free.

June 2 (through August) :: B.E.A.S.T. (Be Energetic And Strong Today) youth training begins!  This group meets Tuesday at 9:00am, Thursday at 6:30pm and Saturday at 10:30 am. Girls and Boys, ages 10-14 will have fun exercising on land and in the pool! {Cost :: $60 for members; $70 for non-members. Classes are held at the West St. Tammany YMCA located at 71256 Francis Road in Covington}

June 3 :: ZOObilation is an afternoon of family fun for kids of all ages and it’s FREE for Audubon Members! During this event, Audubon Zoo is open exclusively for Audubon Members with live music, keeper chats, animals feedings, exhibit open houses and kids activities! Members tour the animal hospital, feed the giraffes and enjoy a discount at all Zoo concessions. Zoobilation is open to anyone with a current membership. Zoo visitors can sign up to become a member on the day of the event!

June 3 :: The Nursery Learning and Development Center is having a tour of their Canal Street location.  Join us to learn more about their full time, year round daycare program.  This space serves children ages 6 weeks to 24 months old.  The address is 4431 Canal Street, in Mid-City.  Please email Olivia at [email protected] to reserve your space.

June 5 :: Make a SPLASH at the Y! Phillips 66 and the USA Swimming Foundation want to educate parents, communities and civic leaders about the importance of learning to swim. Information will be provided on resources available to area residents, including information on free and low-cost swimming lessons. Come meet Olympic gold medalists Jessica Hardy and Rowdy Gaines as they reach out to the communities where Phillips 66 lives and works. This event is FREE and food and refreshments will be provided, as well as free gifts. A meet and greet and autograph session with Jessica Hardy and Rowdy Gaines begins after the assembly and is open to the entire family. The event will be held at the Belle Chasse YMCA at 8101 Highway 23 in Belle Chasse.

June 5 :: National Donut Day is a day of giving back, but Baker’s Dozen is also giving away a free donut on this day! It will be a fun Vintage Carnival theme from 5-11am. We have also chosen a young man in the community to give back to. Connor will be creating his own special donut, and sales of his donut will all go to benefit his upcoming surgery needs.

June 6 :: Cloth Diapers 101 at ZukaBaby. Learn about modern cloth diapers, how to care for them, the pros and cons, hands on demonstrations and handouts to take home. The class fee is $20 and you may bring up to two family members. You will receive a $10 coupon off of a purchase of $100 for attending. Reservations are required; To reserve your spot call 504-596-6540 or email jen {at} zukababy {dot} com.

June 6, 13, 27 :: Nola Nesting supports breastfeeding moms with latch, pumping and more at Latch Clinic each Saturday! All moms are welcome; register for your appointment online. Appointments are $30 (discount provided for KINDRED members) and are open from 11:00am-12:30pm. Walk ins welcome if space allows.

June 10 :: Get ready for a block party on Magazine! Enjoy live music, cooking demonstrations, wine tasting, a scavenger hunt and more. Bring your families, friends, kids, and dogs for a fun FREE New Orleans summer outing from 6 PM to 9 PM on the 3800 to the 4300 block of Magazine Street. Be sure to visit Feet First for a special trunk show marketplace supporting local businesses!

June 11-14 :: The Metairie Art Guild will host their annual art exhibit on June 11-14 at Veterans Skylight near Macy’s garage at Lakeside Shopping Center during mall hours.

June 13 :: Teen Night at the Y! We turn the gym over to boys and girls, ages 12 to 15, the second Saturday of every month from 7:00pm – 10:00pm (adult staff present for supervision). Teens get to use the exercise equipment, take a fitness class, play volleyball, basketball and participate in other great, appropriate fitness activities! {$10 for members; $25 for non-members. Event is held at the West St. Tammany YMCA located at 71256 Francis Road in Covington}

June 13-14 :: French Market’s 29th Annual Creole Tomato means fresh fun in the French Quarter! In addition to plenty of fresh Creole tomatoes for sale, tomato samples,  and food booths featuring Creole tomato dishes, there is a chock-filled children’s area in Dutch Alley between Decatur Street and the River. Find all day FREE activities from 10:00am to 6:00pm both days, including miniature golf, interactive craft booths where kids can make and take tomato-themed stuff, indoor entertainment inside the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center (air-conditioned!), plus facepainting, balloon artists, magicians, hula hooping, and an outdoor soft playground hosted by Playbuild Nola! June 14 :: Join owner of ZukaBaby and Holistic Health Counselor Erin Reho Pelias in this fun and informative Eat Local Challenge Baby Food class on making your own baby food locavore style. From sourcing ingredients to figuring out what to cook and how to make it, we cover the basics of nutrient dense foods for healthy baby; $10 for Eat Local Challenge participants and $20 for non-participants.

June 15-19 :: Lakeview Creative Arts will host SUPERcamp from June 15-19.  We will develop our super powers, decide on a super hero name, make capes and more! Hours are 9:30am – 3:00pm with before and after care available. Tuition is $125 per student and pre-registration is encouraged.

June 15 :: Special Needs kids are invited to meet the penguins with Easter Seals Louisiana and Audubon Nature Institute! Know a child with a disability who’d benefit from meeting the a penguin up close and personal in a calm and less crowded environment? Sign them up for one of our monthly Backstage Penguin Pass Tours. Spots fill up fast and space is limited so get your child in now! Tours are free and open to anyone ages 5-25 with a diagnosed disability. Tours occur once a month at the Aquarium of The Americas. June 16 :: A special Father’s Day themed story-time at Pottery Barn Kids Book Club. Need something fun to do that is educational for your kids as well? Pottery Barn Kids at Lakeside Shopping Center invites you to join their Book Club! Join Pottery Barn Kids each week for story time as they read aloud some of your favorite books. Become a book club member and receive a special gift after attending five story times! Every Tuesday from 11-11:30am.

June 20 :: Monkey Hill Apparel is popping up at Le Jouet! Join us from 9:00am – 6:00pm on Saturday, June 20th and get some great play clothes and toys for the kiddos. We will feature our Spring/Summer 2015 Collection as well as our classic styles. Le Jouet has a great selection of local books as well as the toys your kiddos are asking for. This is a free event.

June 20 :: CALLING ALL DADS: KINDRED Studios celebrates YOU this Father’s Day with “Daddy Hour,” Saturday, June 20th 3-5 PM. Grab a few of your buddies and bring your little ones to KINDRED Studios for DADDY HOUR and enjoy complimentary adult beverages & lite bites, plus FREE use of our Romp Room. See you in the studio!

June 22 :: Madeline’s Kindermusik is hosting a Musical Story Time for children ages 1-4 and a caregiver on Monday, June 22nd at 9:30am. Listen to books, sing songs and play instruments. The theme this month is At the Zoo! $10/child ($5 if child is currently enrolled in Kindermusik class) or $15/family with two or more children. No pre-registration required, just drop in and have fun! Kindermusik’s new location is at the Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center at 3900 General Taylor St.

June 26 :: Madeline’s Kindermusik is having a playdate! The theme this month is A Trip to the Beach. Join us at 5:30pm on June 26th as we take a trip to the beach and enjoy some musical fun in the sun. Children ages 0-6 and a caregiver are welcome to attend. The playdate will be held at Kindermusik’s new location in the Broadmoor Arts and Wellness Center at 3900 General Taylor St. It’s $10/child ($5 if currently enrolled in a Kindermusik class). No pre-registration required, just drop in and have fun!

June 26-27 :: Need a little “Me Time”? Put on your favorite party dress, grab some girlfriends and head on over to The Windsor Court for the sultry sounds of Cristina Perez. The local songstress will be performing some of her favorite jazz hits and singles from her newest album, The Sweetest Thing. Sip on your favorite cocktail and let the evening relax you. You deserve it! Doors at 9:00pm, show starts at 10:00pm. Find out more online.

June 27 :: Erik Johnson, third generation Silhouette artist, cuts each silhouette free hand to get an exact likeness of your child! Join us for this special event at ZukaBaby with the visiting artist. Original pieces are $25 and duplicates are $15. Framing is available. Register online.

June 27 :: Nola Nesting brings you two great classes together so that you can register for one or both. 10:00am3:00pm is Belly To Baby, a class all about natural birth, labor preparation and hands on skills! The class cost is $225 and is taught by Kimberly Davis, a doula and certified Bradley instructor. 4:00-6:00pm is Life With Baby, a class all about caring for your baby and yourself from the moment of birth and preparing for postpartum, including breastfeeding and healing. The class cost is $75 and is taught by Casey O’Keefe, birth and postpartum doula and certfified lactation counselor. A 10% discount for dual registration is offered.
