Six Ways to Make Creative Memories at NOMA

Living in New Orleans means there are always fun things to do with yoNoma 600 x 400ur family. The New Orleans Museum of Art has events every week for visitors of all ages. This month, NOMA introduces even more ways for families to get creative together and build memories that will last a lifetime!

Here are six ways you and your family can make creative memories at NOMA:

1) Family Day

when :: Saturday, January 24 // 10:00am – 3:00pm

Performing and visual arts collide on Family Day! Bring the whole family and help us celebrate Degas’ Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen. Enjoy music and dance performances by students from across Greater New Orleans, and join in a host of activities including music, Art on the Spot, StoryQuest, kid-friendly gallery talks, and Family Art Workshops.

Activities included with museum admission.

2) NEW! | Baby Arts Play! at NOMA

when :: Tuesdays, 1:00pm // Beginning Tuesday, January 27

Instill a love of art at a young age through a guided, hands-on gallery experience. In partnership with Young Audiences and Wolf Trap Foundation of the Performing Arts, teaching artists will present a series of 12 workshops for caregivers and children ages 1-2. Learn how to integrate music, movement, and drama, into everyday playtime to foster children’s developmental growth. Register in advance to ensure your spot.

$5 NOMA member caregivers

$5 + admission for nonmember caregivers

3) NEW! | Family Workshops

when :: Select Sundays // ages 5-8 | 2:00-3:00pm

Get creative together! Family workshops offer a guided, hands-on art-making experience led by teaching artists.

This spring, sharpen your drawing skills by creating projects inspired by NOMA’s collection. Each skill-building workshop will emphasize developing basic drawing techniques and focus on different subject matter. Register in advance to ensure your spot.

$5 per NOMA member

$5 + admission for nonmembers

4) StoryQuest

when :: Select Saturdays // 11:30am

Spark imagination, creativity, and a love of reading. Professional authors, actors and artists bring the world of children’s literature to NOMA in this family series. StoryQuest begins with interactive readings, and then continues with a quest through NOMA’s galleries and garden for related works of art.

Included with museum admission.

5) Studio KIDS!

when :: Select Saturdays, 10:00am – 12:00pm // ages 5 – 10

Globetrot through the galleries this spring at NOMA! Studio KIDS! explores art made by diverse cultures as inspiration for art projects. From beading to painting, each class features different media. Students will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Register for one class or the entire series and collect stamps in your passport along the way! Register in advance to ensure your spot.

$25/$30 per class for NOMA member/nonmember

6) Friday Nights at NOMA

when :: Fridays, 5:00 – 9:00pm // all ages

NOMA stays open until 9 p.m. every Friday night during Friday Nights at NOMA, an evening of art and entertainment for all ages. This vibrant program series features a wide variety of activities including “Art on the Spot,” an art activity table for children and parents to enjoy every week. NOMA also features theater, cooking demonstrations, film screenings, outdoor movies, gallery talks, artist’s perspectives and more.
