From the moment we found out that I was pregnant, we knew we wanted to find out whether we would be welcoming a son or daughter to the family. As she has demonstrated so many times already, Addison had other ideas. While on hospitalized bed rest, I was wheeled down to the ultrasound room twice a week. But each time the tech tried to find the gender for us, our baby would not cooperate and kept her legs closed. As I was getting prepped for delivery, the nurse asked what we had decided to name the baby so that she could announce a name to us. Not long after, the sweet nurse announced, “Addison Rose has arrived!”
A girl! Immediately, visions of bows and dresses filled my mind. These days, however, I’m lucky if Addison keeps a bow in her for more than five seconds! It doesn’t stop me from trying, though! And I can honestly say that I don’t know of any other moms of daughters who don’t like to dress up their girls with cute little bows in their hair, especially adorable, one of a kind bows.
That’s exactly what you’ll find in Denise and Shirley’s shop DS Fascinations. Shirley, a buyer at the gift shop at Touro Hospital, andDenise, a generous volunteer, met over ten years ago. Denise had already begun making beautiful fascinators that they were selling in the Touro Gift Shop, and when the hospital’s gift shop changed management, Shirley supported her to continue with her designs while Denise encouraged Shirley to join her to grow the business. Together, they enjoy creating headpieces and hair bows for a variety of customers and occasions.
Denise has made custom fascinators for special groups such as Mardi Gras krewes and Saints and LSU fans, along with special designs for weddings, high school reunions, and special interest groups with themes. In the DS Fascinations shop, you can also find unique hair bows and headbands for little girls and infants, for holiday and everyday. In addition to the every day designs, Shirley and Denise have also designed infant hairbands for christenings, weddings, and photography sessions, as well.
Just recently, Denise has been exploring embellishing hats in anticipation of Easter and the Kentucky Derby, while Shirley is learning new and better techniques to design more unique items for little girls and women. They are both looking forward to trying a variety of textiles to show their creativity in unusual and interesting designs. Just look at this darling bow they made for Addison for Mardi Gras!
We are excited to announce that one lucky New Orleans Moms Blog reader will win a $15 gift card toward any infant or children’s bow or headband from the DS Fascinations etsy store!
