About Us

Welcome to New Orleans Mom

Welcome! We are proud members of The Louisiana Mom, the premier parenting website and online resource for families who live, work and play in our supported areas. New Orleans Mom, along with our affiliate sites The Lafayette Mom and Red Stick Mom, is passionately dedicated to representing and uplifting the diverse voices of local moms.

Written FOR Local Moms, BY Local Moms

Founded in 2012 by two native New Orleanians, the New Orleans Mom mission is to serve as the city’s premier parenting website and most reliable resource for local families. To do this, we publish relatable and authentic content and provide exceptional family-friendly events that connect our community of parents with each other, and with brands we can’t live without.

There is no one “right” way to be a mom, and no one should do that job alone. Our site has gathered and recognized differing viewpoints on everything from ADHD and childhood anxiety to wetting the bed and yelling. We’ve provided detailed support on maneuvering the local school systems, helpful advice on choosing camps and activities, and love and encouragement from fellow moms.

Growing and Evolving

Since our inception, we’ve become more than a blog. We are over one hundred strong, brave, and beautiful writers who represent our diverse and amazing community. We host several fun and rewarding events for families and new mothers, we share products and ideas regularly on our site and TV, we provide guides for local and traveling parents, and we connect local moms within our vibrant neighborhood community groups (33,000 members and counting!). You’ll find relevant, timely, and fun information and discover a positive, welcoming parenting community.

But as the world’s climate changed, we were compelled to change with it. As a result, we actively reached out to invite marginalized voices to join our growing contributor team. We recognize that the term “mom” does not describe only white, cisgender, heterosexual women. Mom is universal, and so are we.

Also, we took part in Share the Mic Now to amplify black voices in the community and gave our contributors, and our community, the space needed to express themselves as the coronavirus pandemic shut us down, and the murder of George Floyd woke us up.

Be the Change

Going forward, we welcome the opportunity to be a voice of strength, vulnerability, and compassion for our community. We will continue to share supportive, informative, and engaging content. We will continue to share products and services that make the lives of moms easier. Also, we will continue to share diverse perspectives on TV, online, and via can’t miss events.

We will also continue to discuss hard topics, provide resources for fellow moms to discuss those topics with their friends and children, and share the voices, struggles, and triumphs of a world in flux. Each week on Instagram, Takeover Tuesday welcomes you into the lives of our contributors. Additionally each month, via our Be the Change series, we will introduce you to a local nonprofit organization. All mixed in with can’t miss recipes, our favorite local restaurants, and musings on hair and fashion.

Share Your Voice

While we have an amazing team of dedicated writers, we also welcome you to share your voice with our community! We accept submissions from moms, dads, grandparents, and any member of the community. You can find details for submitting a guest post here.
