Hot Dog Toppings :: The True Test of Friendship

Dogs with Friends

To prepare for this post, I sent a message to a group of friends asking for their favorite hot dog toppings. The thread started out pretty innocently but quickly grew into a debate with friends wondering how someone could eat a hot dog a certain way, trying to figure out if we should banish onions from New Orleans and ended up with us questioning the strength of our friendships (totally joking). Apparently people have strong feelings about hot dogs and condiments! Who knew?

The True Test of Friendship

In all seriousness, we’ve all been friends for years. Our children attended school together, we’ve shared countless meals both formal and informal. We’ve spent an incredible amount of time together. Yet NONE of us could identify how the other liked their hot dog to be topped. Previously, we thought the true test of friendship was being able to order coffee for the others. It’s true that we all easily know each other’s coffee preference, but the REAL test of friendship is something far less obvious.

Friend A :: This friend is an outgoing woman with an amazing personality and a flair for the fabulous while maintaining a down-to-earth attitude that you can’t help but love. When she said she liked her hot dog with ketchup and nacho cheese, I was floored. Seriously? Why then was I expecting her to have chili and onions and jalapeños? Did I even know her???

Friend B :: This friend is the peaceful one of the group and is kind and quiet. She dropped a complete bomb when she said her favorite dog toppings were chili, shredded cheese, onions, mustard and jalapeños. I just can’t even.

Friend C :: Plain dog with ketchup. Honestly, I completely expected this one.

Friend D :: I would peg this girl as a simple dog lover, but nope – polish sausage with chili and cheese. Mind. Blown.

Roller-Grill Date

In conclusion, you don’t really know a girl until you find out how she takes her hot dogs. So grab a friend and head over to RaceTrac for a Roller-Grill date. In addition to the “regular” and obvious toppings, RaceTrac has an unlimited toppings bar and even regional specials. In Louisiana we get the Big Easy Louisiana Dog: Beer brat & mustard. While you’re learning more about your friends, snap a photo and upload to social media by November 19th with #Dogtoberfest and be sure to tag New Orleans Moms Blog. Not only will you strengthen your friendships, but you’ll be entered to win a $100 gift card to RaceTrac and maybe even be crowned the Duke of Dogtoberfest with a trip to Judge the 2018 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship on Coney Island!
