This Mom-Gig is HARD {Don’t Forget to Pee}

The Crazy Day

Yesterday, I hosted an event in the morning then hopped in the car and headed downtown to go to work. The afternoon was slammed busy with meetings, phone calls and requests. By the time I got home at 6pm, I was drained. But wait, we had a birthday party to go to at 7pm and my husband was working until 9pm. So I popped all four kids in the car to head to a birthday party at Laser Tag.

The boys absolutely love it there, and I love seeing them run around with their friends and be so active in a somewhat controlled environment. It’s the perfect place for kids their age. The tricky part is that we also have two girls ages 3 and 18 months. This means following the two of them around, swiping random things out of the baby’s hands (why do you want to eat paper???) and doing this in heels and a dress (should have made time to peechange out of work clothes).

After about 14 trips up and down the stairs and in and out of the driving arcade games at least 30 times, it was 9:15 and time to leave. By now, it’s way past the girls’ bed time and they have lost their marbles. The boys are overtired and will never be ready to go. Maneuvering them through the parking lot and into the car was a chore. My feet ache and I realize I have had to pee for over an hour and never made time to go. We get home, get everyone inside and I rush to the bathroom.

Standing RIGHT OUTSIDE OF THE DOOR, I can’t hold it anymore and I pee down my legs.

Yup, you read that correctly. I wet my “pants” right there in my hallway.

Now, c’mon. What’s wrong me in that I chose to fill every single second with craziness and never made time to use the bathroom? I took my 3-year-old in there twice. It doesn’t seem that difficult, but apparently it is. I should have asked for help. I did manage to eat the kids’ half-eaten pizza slices; at least I fed myself, so there’s that.

Don’t Forget to Pee

I write this ridiculousness to share with you that it is so easy to forget yourself in the midst of the circus that is our lives. It doesn’t have to be extreme, like peeing into your favorite shoes, but try to remember YOU. Seriously, this mom gig makes everything harder. You remember everything for your kids, but so often you forget to take care of yourself. So brush your hair. Brush your teeth. Eat. PEE. Take a bath. Make time to remember to take care of you.

Because if you don’t, you just might ruin that pair of pumps you love so much … right along with your dignity.
