This is in no way intended to be a comprehensive event guide {we maintain a full calendar of events right here}. Rather, we’ve pulled out a select number of events for your family to enjoy throughout the month. Living in New Orleans can be overwhelming, but our hope is that consolidating events into a resource such as this will make your job as entertainment director a tad easier! Every Wednesday :: Every Wednesday at 10am at play and grow studios Nola Nesting hosts New Orleans Community Moms.  Come to one meeting, or come to them all – they’re free and for you!  Topics include postpartum, breastfeeding and parents of littles play group.  Visit their website for more info.  No registration necessary.

Every Thursday :: Each Thursday in October Rockin’ the Rails FREE concerts take place at the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire St. in Covington. Lineup includes Eden Brent, Cowboy Mouth, Kermit Ruffins and more.

October 1 :: Looking for a fun and educational Mom’s Night Out? Join Vamonos NOLA Thursdays for Spanish Over Cocktails: Adult Classes. The exuberant Sra. Alejandra, who teaches at Newman during the day and holds her PhD in language, will be leading a fun and low pressure class alternating between a traditional classroom setting and a field trip experience where you can take your new skills on the road! October 1 :: Whole Foods Market’s Louisiana stores will host a series of Sea to Table events in October, highlighting Gulf seafood through demonstrations by local chefs and tours of store seafood departments. Sea to Table attendees will be able to sample chefs’ recipes featuring Gulf seafood, and can enjoy wine pairings. Cost is $25 per person, with all ticket sales benefiting Audubon Nature Institute G.U.L.F. and Louisiana Sea Grant. The first event will be held at Arabella Station at 5600 Magazine St. featuring chefs de cuisine Jonathan Lomonaco of Patois and Cesar Nunez from Coquette. Tickets may be purchased online.

October 3 :: New Orleans Baby & Child Fest.

October 3-25 :: Located in New Orleans City Park, the Wheel Fun Rentals Pumpkin Patch is a great place to go for fun this Fall! Open 7 days a week, 10:00am – Sunset {during the event dates} at the Pumkin Patch. You’ll be able to pick out the perfect pumpkin, play games, take a hay ride and end the day with a sweet snack! October 3 :: First Look Ultrasound provides gender determination at 15 weeks and 3D/4D/HD experiences in a cozy and inviting shotgun home on historic Magazine Street. It’s more than an ultrasound; it’s an experience for your growing family. Visit us at the Baby & Child Fest to register to win a FREE 3D/4D/HD experience! Also at Baby Fest, Palm Tree Playground will be giving away free play passes at the Pontchartrain Center! October 3 :: Mommy and Me and Toddler classes NOW available at  Vamonos NOLA on Saturdays from 10:15-11:00am for 2-3 year olds and 11:15am-12:00pm for 4-24 months. October 3 :: Spark imagination, creativity, and a love of reading. Professional authors, actors, and artists bring the world of children’s literature to NOMA in this family program. Family activities are offered after each StoryQuest to encourage museum exploration. Join us on Saturday, October 3 at 11:30am; the theme will be “Jobs.” StoryQuest is ideal for ages 2-7 and is included in with museum admission (free for children 6 and under, $6 for children 7-17, $10 adults, and $8 seniors). No registration is necessary.

October 6 :: The Nursery Learning and Development Center is having a tour of their Josephine Street location. Join us to learn more about their daycare program. October 6, 13, 20 and 27 :: Baby Arts Play! at NOMA Join NOMA every Tuesday in October at 10:30am to instill a love of art at a young age through a guided, hands-on gallery experience. Young Audiences Wolf Trap teaching artists will present a series of 12 workshops for caregivers and children ages 1-2. Learn how to integrate music, movement, and drama into everyday playtime to foster children’s developmental growth. Admission is $5 for NOMA member caregivers and $5+ for non-member caregivers.

October 6 and 7 :: Are you looking for something more for your kiddo in an after school program? Join Vamonos NOLA for FUN-TASTIC Spanish classes! October 8 :: Nola Nesting is hosting a free screening of The Dark Side of the Full Moon, a look at postpartum care in the U.S.  6-8pm.  Bring a yoga mat, festival chair or a pillow to sit on.  Visit their website for more info.

October 9 & 16 :: Zizu Bijou INFANT MASSAGE class for pre-crawlers at Touro! Join us from 10:00-11:00am in the Foucher Room on the second floor of Touro. We will learn about the amazing benefits of massaging your baby and the skills you need to have a practice at home. $25/family. Parents & all types of caregivers welcome! October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 :: Head over to Rivertown in Kenner for Oktoberfest. Enjoy German food, music and beer!! Admission $6.00 for adults, children 12 years old and under get in free.

October 10 ::  New Orleans Lip and Soap will be celebrating their Grand Opening in conjunction with the St. Tammany Parish Art Association, Fall in to Art Event on October 10th! They will be showcasing the art of Megan Baker. Save the date and don’t miss their Grand Opening specials along with a raffle for a gift basket (valued at $75.00)! They will be there from 10am – 9pm for this special day! Come indulge your self in fine art, luxurious bath and body products and light refreshments from 6pm-9pm. Hope to see you there!

October 10 :: Calling all girls! Longue Vue’s Day of the Girl features round-table discussions, team building activities and a presentation from three-time Olympic champion Ashley Tappin just for girls ages 7-12. $10 per girl; adults are welcome to stay for $12. October 10 :: Belle Chasse YMCA Open House … This free event will open the doors of the Belle Chasse YMCA to everyone in the community! There will be free exercise classes, arts and crafts, games, prizes, and a raffle. Sign up today and pay no join fee! October 10 :: Before the Fall Garden Festival in New Orleans City Park kicks off on October 10 and 11, take some time and build a scarecrow for the Scarecrow Trail Contest! The scarecrows will be displayed at the festival and through October in the Botanical Garden. It’s free to enter and we’ll even give you the frame! You can win $100! October 10:: All Ages Workshop: Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Altar-Making from 10:00 AM to Noon at the Ogden Museum! Participants in the All Ages Workshop will enjoy a guided tour of the Día de los Muertos community altar exhibition created by local artist Cynthia Ramirez and create their own mini altars to take home, featuring traditional crafts such as paper marigolds, papel picado, and calaveras (skulls). Adult Admission – $25.00 Non-Member, $20.00 Member; Child Admission – $15.00 Non-Member, $10.00 Member; Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. October 10 :: Be a chemist for the day at the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s Super Science Saturday, presented by the Louisiana Section of the American Chemical Society. Join us on October 10th from 11:00am-3:00pm. Celebrate National Chemistry Week and learn how “Chemistry Colors Our World”! Participate in kid-friendly chemistry experiments with members of the Louisiana Section of the American Chemical Society. Participate in each experiment to complete your Science Scavenger Hunt card. Then turn it in to receive a prize! The museum is located at 420 Julia St. The cost is $8.50 and free for members.

October 10 and 11 :: Wooden Boat Festival – Every year the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum pays tribute to the hand crafted wooden boats of the Gulf Coast. Hundreds of boats will line the banks of the Tchefuncte River as 30,000+ wooden boat enthusiasts come to celebrate the wonders of wood and water. Several artists and vendors will be out there as well for this family friendly event.

October 11 :: Believe the impossible! Masters of Illusion, the #1 touring magic show in the world, is coming to the Saenger Theatre! Nothing beats the experience of seeing a magic show in person. Marvel at the huge production values and be drawn in by the immediacy of a live performance. October 13 :: The Parenting Center at Children’s Hospital is hosting an open house for parents thinking about kindergarten choices and interested in October_Need-to-Know-PINTRESTlearning about area schools. More than 25 schools are confirmed to participate in this event that is free and open to the public. October 14 :: Join Touro Infirmary at Cafe NOMA for a Clean Eating demonstration. This event also includes a tasting {6:00 – 7:00pm}

October 17 :: Imagination Station is having their Grand Opening!! Please join us from 10 am to 3 pm on October 17th to explore, discover and PLAY in our brand new play center! Children aged 0 to 8 years old and their caregiver are welcomed to attend. FREE ADMISSION!! The Grand Opening will be held at 3535 U.S. 190 Mandeville, La. 70471 (Kmart Shopping Center on Hwy 22). October 17 :: East Jefferson YMCA Halloween Hoopla! Halloween Hoopla is a FREE COMMUNITY EVENT AND ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! Celebrate the festivities of the season with carnival games, snacks, cookie decorating, and Halloween activities for children! The East Jefferson YMCA will offer no joining fee for membership on this day only, so come dressed in your Halloween best to enjoy these spooky savings and have fun with the family! October 17 :: Get creative with Studio KIDS! Artistic time travelers, get ready! Studio KIDS! classes explore art made by diverse cultures throughout time as inspiration for art projects. From beading to painting, each class features different media. Students will learn 2 and 3-dimensional techniques. Join us on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m-12 p.m. for “Beyond Fruit” to decipher the meaning behind Dutch still life paintings then create a mixed media still life with your own hidden message. Children ages 5-10 are welcome. Each class is $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Register for one class or the entire series. Classes are limited to 12 students. October 17 :: Join the Louisiana Children’s Museum for our Healthy Harvest Festival sponsored by Greater New Orleans Foundation. Celebrate fresh foods harvested in Louisiana on October 17th from 11:00am-3:00pm. Learn how to stay healthy and happy with an active lifestyle! Join in hands-on activities that focus on the fall harvest, healthy living and fresh, local foods. The museum is located at 420 Julia St. The cost is $8.50 and free for members.

October 18 :: NOMA’s family workshops offer a guided, hands-on art-making experience led by teaching artists. This skill-building workshop will emphasize developing basic drawing techniques and focus on different subject matter. Join us on Sunday, October 18 at 3 p.m. for a tutorial in landscape drawing. Children ages 5+, teens and adults are all welcome! Admission is $5 per NOMA member and $5+ for non-members.

October 18 :: The Abita Springs Water Festival celebrates the water, culture and heritage that flows from one of Louisiana’s most unique towns. Proceeds benefit their local civic organizations who service the Abita Springs community.

October 18 :: The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is hosting their 2nd annual BOO DAT from 12:00-2:00pm. Merchants will welcome Who Dats of all ages for Halloween-themed activities, including trick-or-treating for anyone wearing black and gold, or a Halloween costume.

October 18 :: America’s favorite animated music group is coming the Saenger Theatre! Alvin and the Chipmunks: Live On Stage is a brand new, music-­filled interactive live show  featuring the Chipmunks and Chipettes. Based on the characters from the hit Fox movies, the show will bring the music and excitement of a live rock concert to life as the Chipmunks perform hits by One Direction, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera, Elvis Presley and more! Tickets available from Ticketmaster.com

October 21 :: Shop for a cause! The Whole Foods Market New Orleans stores will donate their Wednesday, October 21 net sales to local organizations serving animals. Arabella Station will partner with The Inner Pup, whose mission addresses animal welfare education and pet overpopulation in a no-kill setting. The Veterans and Broad St. stores will support St. Francis Animal Sanctuary, the largest no-kill companion pet sanctuary in the Southeast United States.

October 23, 24 and 25 :: Enjoy the Slidell Food and Fun Fest and see bands like Cowboy Mouth live!

October 23, 24 and 25 :: Halloween fun in City Park with Ghost in the Oaks!

October 23, 24 and 25 :: Lafreniere Park hosts Park-A-Boo: a 3-day Halloween Festival primarily for children under 13 years old to costume and participate in activities such as trick or treating, Boo House (our version of a not too scary haunted house), face-painting, 12 games, the hay stack romp, animal balloons, a story telling tent, roaming characters such as Sponge Bob, Elmo, Dora and others, and an entertainment stage for the children. Admission is $5 for children and $8 for adults.

October 23 :: Modern, Comprehensive childbirth education for the modern couple with Nola Nesting!  The series is 10 weeks and includes a breastfeeding course taught by an IBCLC.  Partner’s say they leave confident and prepared to support the laboring mom!  Classes are taught at Play and Grow Studios at 3900 General Taylor and the $350 fee includes a full color 150+ page book.  Pre-registration is necessary.  Email [email protected] to register.

October 24 :: Visit the brand new Kendra Scott store on Magazine Street for their soft opening! While supplies last, any $50+ purchase will receive a complimentary pair of earrings.

October 24 :: Join The Shops at Canal Place for SHIVERS AT THE SHOPS, a family-oriented Halloween event on Saturday, October 24th from 11:00am until 2:00pm. Kids will receive complimentary candy totes for fun trick-or-treating at their stores. Little ghosts and goblins are encouraged to come dressed to impress, with special prizes awarded for best costumes. Families can enjoy live entertainment, face painting, balloon sculptures and special store offers, and RHINO will offer kids the opportunity to create their own Halloween masks. It’ll be wicked fun!

October 24 :: West St. Tammany YMCA Fall Fest! Join the YMCA for a fun-filled Fall event! Play a game, run a relay, or take a hayride through the spook trail. Bring in a canned item for the Covington food bank for entry! The festival will be held at the West St. Tammany YMCA located at 71256 Francis Rd in Covington from 10:00am-1:00pm, call (985) 893-9622 for more information.

October 24 :: Boo Fest! Trick or Treat at over 60 haunted houses at Lakeview Regional Medical Center, on the Green; gates open at 9:30 a.m. for special needs families. Open to the general public at 10 a.m. All proceeds benefit children with disabilities and their families. Admission is only $1.

October 24 :: Celebrate Halloween in a fun and safe way at the Louisiana Children’s Museum’s “Museum Mash”! Wear your favorite costume and play bewitching games for fun prizes on October 24th from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Join the Museum’s staff for a rip roaring, spine-shaking monster mash dance party in the atrium! Explore the Spooky Science Lab, create your own Trick-or-Treat Bags and more! . The museum is located at 420 Julia St. Admission is $10 per person and $5 for LCM members. Pre-Registration is strongly recommended. To pre-register, visit their website. Please note: In line with the Museum’s Health & Wellness Imitative, candy will not be distributed.

October 25 :: VCB Photography is hosting a Halloween Mini Session on Sunday, October 25th, from 1:00-6:00pm. These will be a ton of fun! Halloween costumes can be worn, and parents are welcome to be in the photo as well! Cost is $85, (mention the New Orleans Moms Blog for a $10 discount). This includes a 20 minute session and 10 digital images with print release. Photos will be available online 48 hours after session. October 31 :: On October 31st, from 3-6 pm, Join KINDRED Studios on Halloween for our Trick-Or-Treat open house! Enjoy complimentary beverages, light snacks and of course, candy for your little trick-or-treaters!

October 31 :: Head over to City Putt on Halloween from Noon till 10:00pm for a round or two of mini golf. They’ll have the courses decorated in a boo-tastic way and lots of candy to give to those who yell trick-or-treat!! Grab your friends (no matter the age!) and join them! Prices :: Ages 13+ $8, Children (4-12) $6, Second round in same visit $4, Children (0-3) Free. There will be a guard at the City Putt parking lot on Halloween; tell ‘em you want to play mini golf, and you’ll get a dedicated parking spot. No walking long distances for you!
