New Orleans Moms Who Inspire: Jessica of Nolafionnah

I started my business out of smocked clothing frustration; it was pricey and my crawling 7 month old was just getting everything dirty. I started hand-stitching onesies, and my business was born. I named it “Nolafionnah” for my two favorite things: this beautiful city and my daughter. Shortly thereafter, we found out we were expecting again! But the business name had already stuck. When Evangeline came into our lives, and we settled into being a family of four, I expanded my business into sewing and embroidery.

mothersdaypic3My girls are my life, and NOLA is my world. I’ve always adored this city, and never want to leave it. We are raising our girls to share that same love; you can find us at jumping on the streetcar just a block from our home, headed to every festival in this city. Whether it is for a tomato or an oyster, we are there to celebrate with the rest of the city. I want them to experience all of the amazing culture that this city has to offer.

Balancing motherhood has not always come easily to me; I was pretty terrified to become a mother in the first place, and now I cannot imagine my life without my little loves. They are so very bright and cheerful; having them so close together was a challenge (17 months apart), but watching them become the best of friends, sharing that sister bond, has been so worth it. I was a stay at home mom for a couple of years before taking my business full-time. I love to be creative, and sew; my girls are definitely my inspiration! I find it very relaxing and rewarding, and our girls are thriving at their wonderful school. It has been the good balance that works for our family.

Nolafionnah has been a loyal sponsor of New Orleans Moms Blog and did not compensate us for this post.

About Jessica Ertel

mothersdaypic5Jessica is the owner of Nolafionnah’s Custom Children’s Clothing Boutique and has two sweet girls: Madelynn Fionnah, the pensive, shy one who will shower you in kindness when she warms up to you, and Evangeline Grace, the carefree, happy go lucky little love. Born and raised here in New Orleans, she ended up in Houston after Katrina, where she met her husband. When they found out that they were expecting their first child, they decided that it was time to move home. (Or rather she decided, and her husband came along for the ride.)
