I am a SAHBFN (Stay At Home Black Friday Ninja)

I know that some people love the thrill of the chase, the hunt, the SCORE! I get that. I do.

But, I don’t like crowds. I don’t like irrational, crazed people that feel that they are more entitled to the 3 feet we have to get through the door than I am.

I did the early morning thing one time, when stores opened at like 4am ON BLACK FRIDAY! I found nothing that I remember…except crowds.

So, I have a few issues with Black Friday, one we have clearly identified: crowds.

Northshore MamaBut, the second is the fact that it gets earlier and earlier every year. Wal-Mart actually price matched everyone else’s Black Friday ads LAST FRIDAY. So, while I joke on my blog about it getting earlier every year…..it really does gets earlier EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. I find that extremely unfair to the people who work retail. I’m betting they would like to have some turkey with their family, too.

However, being a savings blogger, I have to say that there are some smoking hot deals that day. But, the secret beauty of it is this: Amazon starts matching those doorbuster deals as soon as the doors open. They even matched the Wal-Mart deals LAST FRIDAY…so did Target….so did Toys R Us.

So, while I do occasionally go out on Black Friday…albeit, not in the wee hours…I get most of my shopping done online…in my flannel pants…with no crowds. I get just as good of deals as the Black Friday Ninjas do.

This past Friday, I got the hot toys at the early Wal-Mart prices. But, I did it on Amazon. They’ll be here sometime next week. AND….I paid for them with my free Amazon gift cards that I have earned all year on Swagbucks.

In fact, I even had a “thrill of the chase moment.” I had just sat down to set a reminder for the Lightning Deal that I HAD to grab when the phone rang. It was the school. One of my kids barfed in class. (shocker!)

So, I had 28 minutes to get to school, check him out and get back home. It’s about a 10 minute drive each way. My fate is all up to the school secretary now! Thankfully, he was in the office waiting for me!

I made it home with 4 minutes to spare. I ran inside, threw down my keys, and jumped on my computer. I posted to my blog page the “THIS IS IT!!!” message, then I got in position. (You know which one…sitting…afraid to blink…heart racing…fingers twitching on the mouse…F5…F5…F5…)

Finally, the price changed and I GOT IT!! SCORE!! Disney’s Infinity Starter Kit for just $37!! (Except it was really free! hee hee)

So, I got the SAME deal and the SAME…well, maybe a little different THRILL as those in the stores. SCORE!

I do this every year, and I get A TON of stuff at those “doorbuster” prices without busting any doors.

I hereby declare myself the Stay at Home Black Friday Ninja! If you want to be one, too, you can join the event I have set up where I post all the best Christmas Deals. It’s a Facebook Event where you can receive a notification with each post if you like.

Are you a Stay At Home Black Friday Ninja? Or do you map out your route and hit the stores on Black Friday morning?

  1. I can’t make it to WalMart on black Friday but I want to get my son a Nabi 2 & they will be $99 at 8 on thanksgiving night! Will Amazon match that it change their price at 8 when they go on sale!? Thank you for this post! I am on the south shore in Chalmette but love your blog!

  2. Great post, online shopping is much easier to score great deals and low prices online than in the department stores. it take the less time and also allows consumers to do their shopping when it is most convenient for them, even very late at night or early in the morning.
