A Recap of Moms Night Out at Louisiana Children’s Museum

When we first started dreaming and scheming about Moms Night Out, we never could have imagined that it would turn out like it did. With 200 local moms, more than 20 sponsors, 250 swag bags (worth $100 each), 9 giveaway prize packs, 3 photographers, a photo backdrop, birthday cake, a live band, massages, hair styling, and unlimited smiles … I think it’s safe to say that we planned using the motto “Go big or go home!” We truly wanted to create an event that would have the feel of a night out with girlfriends, some that you arrived already knowing and some that you were about to meet.

Beyond all of the fun and fanfare we were thrilled to be able to meet so many of you for the first time in real life. Part of what makes The New Orleans Moms Blog special is that we have the ability to reach out, meet with, and help connect local moms.  Lets be honest, it was also nice to be able to chat with some wine from Stack or a frozen drink from Cordina while not having to have our heads on a swivel to make sure our kids were not trying to destroy the museum or kill each other.

Without further adieu we would like to go through our long list of thank yous to everyone that made every part of our birthday special!

Behind the Scenes at Louisiana Children’s Museum

We would like you to know that the staff at the museum was beyond helpful. They were chock full of positive energy and literally never stopped offering their assistance (and trust me we asked for a LOT). They helped unload multiple cars, pushed carts full of stuff, dragged around hundreds of swag bags, set up tables, manned tables and broke down the event for us at 10:00 p.m. before we could even help! If you are thinking of planning a party at the Museum, don’t hesitate! The staff alone makes it a fabulous venue, and we are already dreaming of future events there.

Our Co-Title Sponsors: Touro (Where NOLA Babies Come From) and Blo (They blew us away!)

We would have been unable to host this event if it were not for our co-title sponsors, Touro Infirmary and Blo. Both of these companies worked with us from the very beginning as we built our vision of what we wanted this night to feel like for all of you. We are blessed to have such kind and supportive partners!

The Devil was in the Details, All Created by Local Moms!

As every mom who has planned a first birthday knows, the joy (and the pain – ha ha) is in the details. We were so excited when we saw the amazing photo backdrop and props that Melissa from Let’s pARTy NOLA created for the event. We shared an idea with her and she ran with it, creating something that honored the sponsors and was fun at the same time! She also created our name tags, water bottle labels and other “necessary” party paraphernalia. You may have noticed on Instagram that there is a trend of chalkboard art at birthday parties. While we did not create a board with our 1 year old stats (we weren’t sure anyone would be interested in our collective weight), we did love our welcome chalkboard and giveaways board by Small Chalk. Ashlee was a pleasure to work with, and we’d gladly recommend her for your chalk needs. And, everybody knows that the birthday child has to have a cute outfit! While we didn’t don party hats, we were matching and comfy in our NOLA shirts and NOLA Mama necklaces thanks to Storyville Apparel and The Bead Shop! Both businesses are owned by local moms, Natalie and Georgia, and it felt great to support them. Our awesome three tiered first birthday cake was created by JCB Creations, and we were lucky enough to surround it with precious personalized cookies from Essie’s Sparkling Confections (another local mom-to-be!). We also loved our custom programs that showcased all the details created by a New Orleans mom to three, Melissa Fein of Cannonball Designs. We have to say: New Orleans moms have it going on when it comes to customer service and creativity!

All of the Details

The Pampering

30 of our guests who purchased (or won) VIP tickets were treated to dry stylings at the event by Blo. Moms sipped champagne and relaxed as they got their hair styled into the look of their choice. Moms also had the option of getting treated to a free chair massage by Jessica or Renata of NOLA Maternal Instincts. If you happened to visit them inside the Talk and Play Center, I think you will agree with me when I say that they are super talented at what they do.

Capturing the Moment: Moms Behind the Camera

In this crazy age of social media it seems that it isn’t a first birthday unless you capture all the fun in photos. We had not one but three amazing local photographers show up to capture our big day. Thanks to Mindy Rathe for meeting us at Blo and capturing the fun while the contributors got their hair done. Thank you to Amy Castillo of Amy Cherie Photography and Natalie from Little Fish Photography for spending the evening with us at the Museum! You all did a great job of documenting the day! We also had an up and coming New Orleans mom photographer, Tiffany, on hand as well.

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Thank you to Reginelli’s, Zea, Your Nutrition Delivered, Whole Foods, Tartine, The Peacebaker, Byblos, Salu and The New Orleans Ice Cream Company for treating us to some amazing food. Highlights of the night for me were the pickled veggies from Your Nutrition Delivered, cheese tortellini from Reginelli’s, and wowza I have to tell you the Ponchatoula Strawberry Ice Cream from New Orleans Ice Cream Company about knocked my socks off. The cookie favors created by Essie’s Sweet Confections with the LCM, Blo, and NOMB logos were adorable. We also can’t stop without thanking Stack Wines, our exclusive wine sponsor, and Cordina Cocktails.

The Giveaways

Giveaways might not be a part of the first birthday tradition, but we decided a pinata could get a little rowdy and that giveaways would be a little more refined (I kid). Nine moms left with huge smiles on their face due to the awesome generosity of some amazing businesses. Thank you to Little Pnuts, Kalencom, Rock n Sake, Stella and Dot by Laurie Klein, Fried Green Designs, Lil Squirts, Crane, New Orleans Ice Cream Co, Theatres at Canal Place, Go Go Babyz, ICONIC, Tasc Performance, Sweet Olive Soap Works, Loomed NOLA, Its a Wild World, NOLA Maternal Instincts, Amy Cherie Photography, The Windsor Court, The Blue Alligator, Crescent City Concierge, H20 Salon and Spa, Baby Bump Maternity and Children’s, Dishcrawl, French Market Coffee, Storyville, Boogie Wipes, Dria Cover, Balboa Baby, Feet First, Pilates Loft, and Creative Sitters.

The Swag, AKA Your Party Bag on Steroids

The biggest complaint that we heard throughout the evening was that your swag bags were too heavy. Insert our eye rolls here because we worked so hard to create a swag bag busting at the seams just for you all! All joking aside, we hope you enjoy every item and coupon in the bag.

Thank you to every company that contributed: Crane, RilleyRoos, Let’s pARTy NOLA, Tartine, The Peacebaker, GoGo Squeez, Blo, Cheribundi, Tasc Performance, Cool Bottoms, Your Nutrition Delivered, Peter Rabbit, Feet First, Smoothie King, Amy Cherie Photography, NOLA Maternal Instincts, Zapps, Theodent, Happy Family, Haybands, Luxury Pasta, Jewell by April Hurry, Nuby, Baby Bump Maternity and Children’s, French Market Coffee, The Blue Alligator, Supergoop, Little Pnuts, CupCake Fairies, Walgreens Uptown (on Magazine Street), Origami Owl by Nicolle Endoso, Flourish by Stephanie, Storyville, Balboa Baby, Reginellis, Close Combat Fitness, McDonalds, Pilates Loft, Creative Sitters, and The Bead Shop.

The Sponsors

We would like to thank every business that sponsored a table, showed up (all on time much to my relief), smiled, brought treats for each and every mom and shared the night with us. Thank you to Baby Bump Maternity and Children, The French Market, Stella and Dot by Laurie Klein, The Palm Tree Playground, Baby Fest, Beatrix Bell, Haybands, Loomed NOLA, NOLA Maternal Instincts, Touro, Blo, New Orleans Childrens Dentistry, Jewell by April Hurry and Baby Boot Camp NOLA.

Our Guests: Every single one of you all that showed up to celebrate with us are special to us. We are HONORED that you would take use your Saturday night to come to our party. To those of you that we got to meet: it was a pleasure! To those of you that we did not: please come again, reach out, connect with us … you are important to us. Thank you, thank you , thank you … for reading, for showing up, for being an integral part of this amazing community of NOLA moms.

Until the next one, keep calm and NOLA mom on!
